Really OT Hormone Storm

Gosh, it's good to be back!! (Technical problems with both my brain and the computer's.)

PLEASE warn every post-menopausal woman you know who is on anti-depressants to be very careful when coming off hormone replacement therapy. Major, major mood swings along with the hot flashes, night sweats and mushy brain.

I'd been on HRT since '88, never experienced menopause symptoms till my Dr. pulled me off the hormones cold turkey. Now I know what mood swings are like. Really scary!

Now off to happily wade through some of the 8K+ posts.......

Wheeeeeee! Quilty news! Picture major beaming face.

I was taken off hormones cold turkey when I was diagnosed with breast cancer; I had had a complete hysterectomy 2 years earlier, so I have no ovaries to produce any natural estrogen. After the surgery I started taking tamoxifen, and one of the side effects is hot flashes. The first few months were basically one big hot flash. Once they were more intermittent, they were more annoying. My primary care doctor suggested trying Vitamin E and that has helped. I guess I have been fortunate that my main "symptom" is hot flashes -- no wild mood swings or anything.

Step away from the rotary cutter. Close the safety cover, put it down, and no one will get hurt. I have some nice chocolate for you, there's a girl.

Welcome back, Sparky!

Try taking some ginseng for your hot flashes. Worked for me.

I'd also been on HRTs for a long time.... kept taking them because osteoporosis runs in my family. Dr. sent me for a bone scan and then started me on zocor(?) (whatever it is, I'm using a generic.) BUT, bless my Dr.! He gave me a long prescription to "wean" me off the HRTs - said he didn't want any violence to show up in the family . That was last fall. This summer heat has started up my "fashion glows" (read: hot flashes) all over again. Today, I cannot wait for WINTER! and I live in Maine!
