OT: Coffee Crisps was Re: Quick Quilt top dance

They are incredible, I love them, I agree with Diana they are quite tasty. It baffles me why they don't sell them in the states, another chocolate bar that we don't get are Whatchamacallits. Do you guys get Snickers or Mars bars?

What part of MN will you be heading to? I can wave if you get close enough. I have no clue what makes a company sell certain products to only certain countrys. Perhaps Nestle believes that only Canadians are worthy of such lucious goodness as Coffee Crisps. They may be right. Oooh.. lets do that timeless debate about smarties vs m&ms. lol Diana

The one thing I've picked up is that Mars Bars (UK) is *not* Mars Bars (US). They're Milky Way (US).

Coffee Crisps are begining to wander over the border again. I used to stock up when I went to Canada, in fact I found a dollar store in Guelph that sold the things at 2 for CA$1. I'm lucky I didn't fall into insulin shock just hauling them up to the counter. Now though, I can get them at either the Mobile mini-mart by the expressway, or at the smoke shop on the reservation. In fact DH brought me home a couple tonight. Convienient Coffee Crisps, oh yeah livin large.

Oh, Whatchamacallits have never gone off the shelf here so far as I know. Then again I wouldn't be surprised to wander into the corner store and find Aero and Skye bars tucked between the Zagnuts and the Baby Ruth bars. Some places have certain things regularly, and some don't. How they figure it in some cases must involve throwing dice and the number of winning lottery tickets sold in a year. At least that makes as much sense as anything else I can think of that they may be doing.

Ok. So you guys don't get Smarties? Learn something new everyday. We get Snickers and Mars but don't get Milky Way. But when we go to KFC we can't get mashed potatoes here and the pieces of chicken are bigger in the USA than Canada and the gravy tastes better from the USA. I'm stopping at KFC on this trip. We're headed to Hinkley, North Branch, Mille Lacs areas. Hopefully we can scoot across to Superior to the quilt shop there. Can't remember the name but I love that one and have memorized the way there.

The Mars is probably what we call Mars Bars, I don't think the peeps in the USA get Snickers, or it might be the Mars bars not sure. We don't get Milky Ways in Canada

I used to like Marathon bars but then they changed their name to Snickers and it put me right off!

Bought a Kitkat while in US and it tasted much different to the UK one. Also took Hercheys (sp?) back as requested by DS but one bite and they all wanted their Cadburys or Lindt.

I made a point of trying all the 'delicacies' I had read about on Newsgroups cant remember any names but Yum Yums and Twinkies ring bells- but they weren't a patch on a good old cream bun!

Obviously we all have different taste buds!

By the way, what are 'Peeps'.

Not around here.. no smarties. I prefer the m&ms anyway. Im sure it has a lot to do with what we grow up with. We do get Snickers, a chocolate covered bar with nugat, caramel and peanuts. Is that the same as your snickers? I'll wave, but youre going to be quite some ways away from my area. Im more near the Twin Citys. Have a great trip! Diana

We used to have Marathon bars a LONG time ago - looked like a long rope that was made of caramel and covered with chocolate --- I hate that they discontinued them :( (here's a bit about them

your snickers like that? Ours has peanuts and a bunch of other stuff covered with chocolate

Peeps, in my opinion are a terrible atrocity to the taste buds :P They are this fluffily marshmallow "thing" covered with a colored sugar. They are cut into shapes....like baby chickens....

Hope it helps :) I am always so fascinated by these little differences --- it's really interesting to me :)

I have been told that there is a relatively new quilt shop in Aitkin, which is a bit north of Lake Mille Lacs. The person who told me about it thought it was quite nice. If you get there, let me know what you think; DS has a place on a lake near there, so we get up there once in a while. I think this must be it (from

We have Snickers (chocolate covered nougat, caramel, and peanuts), Milky Way (chocolate covered nougat & caramel), and Three Musketeers (chocolate covered "fluff"). The Milky Way website does say that the Milky Way bar is called a Mars bar outside of the U.S.A. I thought I had bought a Mars bar fairly recently, but according to

it has been renamed Snickers Almond bar in the U.S., and is called Mars Almond bar in the rest of the world.

I googled Coffee Crisps and learned that they are sold in some parts of the U.S. There is a petition to get them sold in the rest of the country at

The true Peeps connoisseur knows that Peeps are not meant to be eaten when bought. If you keep them around for six months (prime aging) to a year (look right for the season again), they dry out a bit and get crisper.....

And while the link posted was to the "official" Peeps site, a great good lot of fun can be had at *this* Peeps site.....

Our Snickers (formerly Marathon) are the same as yours peanuts and chewy stuff covered in chocolate. I find the new name unappitising!

My children used to have curly wurlies, but I havent looked for them in the shops for years. Very hard toffee (concrete) twisted in a long lacy pattern (bit like quilting on sashing!) then dipped in chocolate. Don't know if they're still around

Mars Bars are sort of whipped up soft nought with a thin layer of caramel on top and then covered in chocolate.

Milky way are slightly smaller than Mars and are just the nought that has been whipped up a bit more. They used to be advertised as the bar you could eat before meals, presumably 'cos they were 50% air!

When I was small and we had food rationing we could have 1/4-lb sweets, and I can remember having a Mars bar cut into slices and having one piece a day! Still can't get used to seeing people just eat their way through one! Can remember having a Frys Cream bar hidden in the garden as Easter Egg substitute!

Like Crunchie Bars too - sort of crispy sugary honeycomb dipped in chocolate. They didn't like being cut into small pieces as the end of the bar used to go runny!

They are now all available as Ice Cream bars! but they never really taste right. Sally

Thanks Julia: We usually go back home that route, from Mille Lacs, through Aitken then Carlton then back on the freeway. Thanks for the heads up on the new shop. If we get through there while it's open I'll be sure to stop. I'll for sure let you know.
