OT: Deanna

Deanna is the shelter pup we adopted nearly 2 years ago. Today, she was going in for a b ath and a nail trim - she has dark nails and I'm scared to clip them and I can't lift her to wash her. While there, we reviewed what things she had coming due, and decided to take care of them since she was already there. Well, in the course of everything, it was discovered that she has a lump on her butt, and they want to do surgery to remove it (and while she's out, take off the flappy fat ball on her right front leg AND clean her teeth). Well...total for that is more than we have to spend right now, so tomorrow, she will go back in and they will do a needle aspiration to try and see if the lump is malignant or benign.

So, tonight I'm stressed, exhausted, scared, hurting, and have way too much work to get done. I have another young lady from the Cinderella Project coming over tomorrow night so that I can take measurements to alter her prom dress, so I *need* to get the sewing room straightened up from the tornado called Larisa....in the middle of making 2 different summer wardrobes - 1 for DD, 1 for DNiece....not to mention the quilts, etc.

So, if you have the time, could y'all send good thought this way??

Thanks,

Larisa

Hugs and virtual dog cookies coming for Deanna. Hoping it is something very benign and easy to deal with.

WHOA ! STOP! Dorter of mine, don't invite trouble. Lucy-dog had a 'lump' that we had aspirated' (benign), it grew back and kept getting bigger, had it aspirated the 2nd time. Same results: negative. Vet said both times if it doesn't interfere with her daily activities leave it be. When she passed on we had the lump removed and analyzed: it was what is known as fatty tissue and MOST DOGS GET IT Certain breeds get it more often than others...but she was a 'mutt' (Schneltie that thought she was a human) and should have had a lesser chance of getting one.

In the meantime, there are things and kidlets that need caring for to help keep your sanity sane. ((My Ukrainian friend use to say: have a cuppa to help keep your sanity sane)).

Hope this takes the edge off your worrying for tonight....PLEASE keep us posted tomorrow

Thanks MOMII

Good thoughts coming your way. Where is a fairy godmother when you really need one! Good luck with your dog. I know it is stressful when there is something wrong with a pet. Our 2 dachschunds lived to be 12 & 13. We had already decided that we did not want any more pets. One of them had a fatty tumor on his side. The vet knew it wasn't malignant, but said it would get bigger. It did keep getting bigger, and he started biting at it so we had it removed. Of course, he chewed his stitches out immediately, so they stitched it with wire this time. He didn't chew those out, lol. Hang in there, Larisa.

Larisa,

I have had to have many cysts aspirated on my girls. They are Boxers which are prone to being "lumpy". It is very stressful and I get just plain scared for them. So far, out of about 20 lumps, only one was suspicious and had to be removed. The rest were not a problem. The Vet even aspirated about 2cc out of one of them.

My prayers are with you and Deanna. Keep good thoughts. :-)

good thoughts flying to you. My 'pup' tore out a nail while playing and has been whimpering and limping around. Not nearly as bad as what you've just been going through, but I definitely sympathize. Musicmaker

My darling Clancy has two lumps in the chest area and the vet told us the exact same thing - if they're not interfering with her daily routine and not getting any bigger, it's best to just leave them. She's 12 years old and has put up with these lumps for at least two years, so hopefully everything will stay okay. Good luck.

OK, took my darling furrball back into the doc today (after the morning of allergy shots and chiropractor with my 3yo DD in tow). They took her back to the surgery area because I told them I couldn't handle seeing them stick her. WHen she was brought back, they told me that she was bleeding a little and to keep an eye on it and that they would call me this afternoon with the cytology results.

So....I finally get a call back from them and was told that, as far as they can see, it "looks benign" but that the doc still wants to remove it. Right now, we are not on the surgery schedule. This is not something that I can think about right now, especially when my sounding board is only available through long distance calls....we will talk through everything when he gets home.

So....for the time being, we aren't doing surgery, they think it is just another fatty lump, I have to cut back on her food and treats because they have informed me that she is extremely overweight, and I have to clean the popp out of the yard more frequently (that's in order to keep the children from getting the roundworms that they discovered Deanna has). I also need to clean out the kids sand and water table because we forgot to put the lid on it and at least one of the stray cats decided to use it as a litter box....will be emptying sand and bleaching it, then bagging the cat poop when I clean up the dog poop.

The general consensus is that Deanna got it by, pardon the ickyness, eating cat poop from the yard, so...we have to be more vigilant when she is outside.

That is where we are tonight. SHe was not a happy pup when we got home and just went outside and flopped on the patio. I think she ate for the first time about 15 minutes ago..mostly she is just flopped on the floor, staying cool, or drinking water.....

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers,

Larisa

P.S. The reason they want to do surgery now is because if it gets bigger, it could interfere with her rectum and make it hard for her to go to the bathroom, which would lead to even more complicated medical issues (not to mention a messy house!)
