sorry if this offends/annoys anyone but to me it just makes good sense. i just found this today. google has promised 10 million dollars to implement the best ideas to help the most people. sounds silly to some of you, no doubt, but think about it. the internet has provided the largest number of people on the planet with the largest amount of information in the history of mankind. lots of people have ideas, some of those are great ideas. most of those ideas only ever get told around a gathering of family and friends. to implement ideas always cost money. most of us will never have enough money to do anything about it. google is offering the money to implement those great ideas. what have you got to lose. go have a look at this site and see. spreading the word cuz i reckon quilters all have great ideas, j.

hmmmm, as i got no responses either quilters have run out of good ideas or they didnt bother going to the website to see what it was all about or they all thot there she goes again, that loon from the southern hemisphere that hasnt a clue what is really going on in the world...living in a small country far from the maddening crowd like she does. admittedly we do only have one large city and three smaller ones down this way. the rest of the folks live in smaller towns, villages, boroughs or on farms. hey, we all still used horses and carts to get around on dirt roads for the most part. :)) amazing tho it seems, we do have electricity and the internet or i'm speaking from the great beyond....wherever that might be. now we wait til the end of January (i forget the exact date) til the ideas have been sorted thru and the best ones chosen for internet voting by the general population. then google comes up with the money and those ideas get implemented. this to me seems like a brilliant thing to do. i cant wait to see what those great ideas are. shrug, j.

Hi Jeanne, I had a look at the site; I hope it does produce good things. Unfortunately (Climbs on soap box) the world seems to be sunk in the mire of possible recession, where their superannuation and house values might drop a few percentage points in the long term. Millions of people across the world don't get enough to eat every day and die of things that are easily preventable in modern countries. India is jumping up and down with glee - they have sent an unmanned craft into Space. Hey sahibs, what about decent sanitation and clean water for all the Indian population? Perhpas we need to put things into perspective and consider what really matters to greater humanity. I remember being quite taken aback reading on this forum that some small townspeople didn't participate in recycling programs because they might be accused of being tree-hugging greenie political subversives by other citizens in their town. (Paraphrasing a bit.) If that is an example of how some modern towns behave, it looks like we have a long way to go before we can all pull together in the same direction.

Being from Somewhere in New Zealand you may have seen the New Inventors program. That has some terrrific ides for very simple things like portable water sanitisers that will if encoraged make a huge difference to the developing world. New Zealand had produced some very forward thinking people over the years. (Yes I know the Aussies claime them as their own). Like Australia, NZ has a short pakeha history and perhaps is still closer to the pioneering spirit and the development of ideas through necessity. So maybe a KIWI will win. As to not knowing what is happening in the world, we seem to get a very comprehensive news service here "down Under". You get to see what is happening all over the world; some overseas countries give very little coverage to anything outside their borders. So there you have it Jeanne, from another Antipodean Loon. Someone does care! Fay
