Howdy!

The most recent study I saw/read about this "degree" issue says that 60% of college gradusate do NOT work in the field indicated by their degree.

So what's wrong w/ having a "formal" education included w/ childcare? And when is education (w/ or w/out a "degree") ever wasted?

"A degree isn't everything." My in-laws were horrified when their son chose to not go to college,

31 yrs. ago. He has stayed w/ one career that nets him 4 times the salary both of his college-degreed parents made together.

And one more thing: ALL moms are working moms. Some of the full-time at-home moms could eat those college grads for lunch while taking care of all their children w/ one arm in a sling. LOL

Ragmop/Sandy-- and we quilt, too ;-P

Howdy!

This style is called Casual Housekeeping, Charlotte. I've been practicing it for years and hope to become quite accomplished someday. Years ago I was in an online group called Casual Housekeepers; we had all kinds of tips and stories. We overcame the Get-O crowd mentality, and accomplished more of our favorite things, like quilting.

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy

Crap heap Kate? : ) That made me lol. We 'live' in our house too. It isn't usually a crap heap either ; ) DH wouldn't notice a mess if it tripped him and that makes life pretty pleasant.

Interesting dh has been the one met with the attitude about having a wife that 'doesn't work'. Folks he works with think that is ridiculous. Hasn't bothered him.

At this point I am a retired SAHM. DD graduated from college last month and starts a new job Wednesday. I tell folks that have an attitude about SAHM's that I just sit around and look pretty all day. It really isn't any one else's business. I don't have time to work at this point. It has been a plus for all of us. Taria, still laughing when I think of 'crap heap'.....

That's what I tell people too Taria....that I'm a retired SAHM. However since both children live nearby and aren't yet married....I seem to be only about half retired since they have graduated from college. There always seems to be something to do with or for them. That may be decreasing soon though....DD will be starting a full time teaching job (nearby) but DS will be moving 1000 miles away to attend grad school. I doubt I'll be able to help him out as much....except to send $$$. There are some days I do feel like my house is a crap heap.....not many though, thank heaven. Maybe some of the crap heap will diminish once everyone gets moved!!!! KJ

Heavens, I never said I was defensive. I usually tell people who ask that I'm a full-time mom, or, sometimes, that I don't work outside the home. I stated my opinion strongly here because I thought I was among friends. Do you really think I lecture people I've just met??

Oh! A hearty ROTFLMAO! Just yesterday, I was excitedly telling my Mum about the amazing animal that crept into my dunny (outdoor toilet). It was an Onychophoran, just in case anyone out there wants to know. Mum was fascinated to hear that it's a kind of 'missing link' animal between the worms and the arthropods and tiddlypom...

Anyway, darling Mum exclaimed 'Patricia! You are *wasted*! You should be working somewhere in a laboratory, not just parked at home!'

'Gee, thanks, Mum!'

according to my DH, the stereotype of SAHMs are women who where muumuus and eat bonbons while watching Oprah...he's just kidding of course, but still...that all started when Mother bought me a Hawaiian print housecoat to wear while I was getting my hair done for our wedding so that I wouldn't have to mess the "do" up by pulling a shirt over it

but just think.. if you were in a lab you would not have seen it! and you can pass on all that information to your children who will have an easier time of it in school ;-)

my kids are learning English from me - something they would not have picked up nearly as well if they had been sent to child care from the age of 3 months.

ROFLOL - Had to laugh when at work all of us came back after 2 weeks of school holiday vacation - we all rocked up with smiles on our faces happy to be back - and away from the rotten little children.....although we were surrounded by them at work too!

I was raised with all grown-ups until my sister was born, when I was three). I was terrified, being with all of those children, when I went to kindergarden. I think that a day or two of day care or play group would have helped me a great deal. I have been "termanelly" shy my entire life, afraid of groups, etc. I think that Sofi is lucky!
