OT: Maui

DH and are spending a week in Maui in just a few more days. We have scoured the internet and our travel books and brochures and don't want to miss a thing. Drop me a line if you know of any "don't miss" places or activities in Maui.

I hope you want to tell us about what you saw and did while there. As an "old" WWII Veteran of the Navy I was stationed a Puunene and Kahului, Maui at our air bases there during the war and through the end of the war some of us stayed on to close (bookkeeping wise) the two air bases. The Marines used to go up Haleakala Mountain on goat hunting trips. I have NOT eaten goat meat since coming back. I spend about seven pages on my duty in Hawaii in my latest book. It will be out this late summer. Now besides quilting my star quilt tops I am working on a novel this time. A Mary Jane book who makes all the right decisions throughout her life. Hummmmmmmmmm.

I wonder if that nice little LQS is still in business? It's been three years since we went to Hawaii so I don't know for sure. Here are the things DH and I always do when we go Maui......... Boat trip to Molokini for snorkeling &/or scuba Bicycle down Hale-a-kala -- it's really an easy ride 99% downhill "Do" a haole tourist luau -- usually at the Sheraton, I think Ride the cain train and spend the day in Lahaina Day trip to Lanai -- $$ but worth it to say the least!

If any of those thing "tickle your fancy" let me know and I will try to give you more info. We used to use "Cruiser Bob's" to do the bicycle ride down the volcano but I'm not sure if they are still in business. We didn't do that the last trip because my arthritis was acting up. I'm pretty sure Captain Jack's is the company we use when we go to Molokini. There's also a really great fabric store -- BIG store too -- down near where the cruise ships dock. I can't for the life of me remember the names of ANT towns on Maui except Lahaina!!! Must be having a Senior Moment -- LOLOL! If you are interested, let me know and I will be more than happy to get out my map and tell you precisely where this stuff is located. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

My husband and I were there in Feb. We loved it! We found a cute

50's diner and quilty shop in a little shopping center at one end of the main drag in Lahaina. We watched a baby whale frolicking, with her mother following behind, from a lookout spot on the main road near the Sea Life Park. There is a nice quilt shop in the Queen Kahumana shopping center (I didn't make it to the one by the cruise ship). We ate at Ruby's Diner at that same shopping center two or three times. Have a great time!

Judy I hope you have tons of fun. DH and I went to Oahu two years ago and had a blast. I found a really terrific website for reasonably priced tickets for tours, luaus and such. They have great customer service should you need to call them. It's Tom Barefoot's Tours at

I bought our luau tickets through them. They are actually located on Maui too. Good luck.
