OT: My GRRRRRR Update

Howdy!

Condolences to Debbi. I like space. Lots of it. When we bought this home 12 yrs. ago, a friend & a neighbor both asked, "What will you do w/ all this space when your boys move out?" We laughed. Do? Why, enjoy it, of course. Enjoy it all to ourselves! ;-D We've made do w/ 800 sq. ft,

1200 sq ft (S.F.Bay Area homes), 1500 sq. ft, and now 2600 sq ft, which is not all that big in the grander scale of New Homes in this area (which aren't all that big compared to New Homes in Fast Growing parts of the country, those that are now suffering from Can't Afford This Big Home -itis).

Tenting for termites: is this The Way it's done out there? Here they drill thru' the foundation slab, pump in "treatment" chemicals, drill thru' the walls and around the wet areas to get to the creepy little malicious basta.. er.. critters. Bug Man puts a "protective barrier" around the home to keep the termites from coming back for a while. No tents. (My carpenter dad was also a Bug Man for years; it's a wonder we don't all have 3 arms and 5 eyeballs; he loved Chlorane; f-i-l loved 2,4,5-T [aka agent orange] for killing mesquite trees & brush.)

Meanwhile, good luck w/ the moving; LABEL everything, EVERY thing, if you want to find what you want in the next 2 yrs.; we always end up w/ stuff we don't recognize, after a house move. Quilting maintains sanity. Sometimes.

Cheers! R/Sandy - moving things out of the Tuff Shed so I can move out the Christmas stuff & move in the autumn stuff & see what's new... ;-D

Having made multiple moves with the military over the years, I can appreciate the tiny sewing space. I once used a space just like that, although being military housing, I couldn't build anything in! My closet under the stairs was a bit bigger, but it also held the water heater and furnace, so was very stuffy! It was close to the laundry and kitchen, so that made it work at the time. I miss the moves - but only because it forced us to give away/sell/trash things that we really didn't need.

I'm glad you haven't had to move too far away from everything that is familiar to you. Safe is good! When DH & I were thinking of relocating, a "safe" city was number one on the priority list. After much searching, we decided to stay where we are. I hope Mission Viejo will get to feel like home in no time. Not sure when I'm going back to Dana Point - probably not till after the new year, but hopefully we can have a meet up & I can introduce you to my BFF Linda. She's thinking she wants to make a little something for a baby that is coming in April. There was a cute pattern in your LQS that caught her eye. She is not a quilter:(
