Just Ducky

No, not me. That's the name of a baby quilt I just finished -- just in the nick of time, since I'm scheduled to have lunch with the mother-to-be on Friday. She's a former student of mine from when I was a French teacher in Arizona, and she moved here at about the same time as we did and has stayed in touch for all this time. She was always one of my very favorites; I don't make quilts for just any student, after all. ;)

I've posted pictures at , if you'd like to see it.

Oh my goodness, she'll love it forever - or until it falls to pieces, whichever comes first. It's precious. Polly

Oh, that's so sweet, Sandy. I wondered what you were working on (apart from Christmas!). What a lovely pattern. Those little ducks are so *right*. Mum and baby will be thrilled. . In message , Sandy writes

Thanks, Pat! :) Actually, I'm not sure the ducks really look like ducks. My own theory is that they're "swucks" -- a result of the Ugly Duckling playing the field before realizing that he was a swan.

Thanks, Patti. The mother-to-be wanted brown and blue for her nursery colors, but I just couldn't do the ducks in anything but yellow.

Thanks, Polly. :) I do hope it falls to pieces after a long and loved life. I didn't add a hanging sleeve, since I want this to be *used*.

Which reminds me, has the "nativity ducks" thing hit your media yet?

The BBC covered it on their website:

They got it from a Christian website that looks for the tackiest examples of commercialization of religion they can find. This one is a nativity scene where Virgin & Child, Joseph, three wise men and two shepherds were all ducks.

There's a Christmas quilt in there somewhere...
