OT - My son made me Bawl

This morning started out as usual with getting my son up for work, making breakfast and driving him to his place of employment.

I came back ready to tackle the day starting with the morning dishes. I was cleaning off the table and there sat a paper plate. Almost tossed it but at the last minute noticed my son had written me a note.

The note said

"Christmas is a time for giving. Thank you for giving me life".

All I could do was sit down and bawl my eyes out till they are red and puffy.

Christmas presents don't have to be wrapped in bright fancy paper. Mine was a simple paper plate.

Still wiping the tears away.

Kate, he made me bawl, too. Every once in a while children come up with the most beautiful things. You are a lucky mom..... and he's, obviously, a lucky son, too.

I'd keep it -- forever possibly. Use a hole punch and tie it with a ribbon or a piece of yarn. Be sure to add the date on the back and some day... each year, you'll be able to remember this special day. I've got a mouse Son made in about 1984 or so, that each year is tucked into the branches.

Basic how-to: small paper plate, folded in half. Hole punch edge and thread a shoestring thru the holes. Leave "tail" hanging and draw eyes. Sign. Date!!! (especially date, because you won't remember otherwise)

Of course some folks prefer a perfect tree with matching this, that, and the other. Ours has lots of memories.... Whatever works best for you is fine, but for us? We'd keep that plate for the Christmas tree just as it is.

How cute! A fine and loving daughter you have there. I like these warm fuzzy things this time of the year.

Its the unexpected things that really count, isn't it.

I got a 'weepy-maker' from DD a few weeks ago. Don't know where she found it. Its very silly and it came completely out of the blue from a daughter who is not normally demonstrative at all so it was doubly weepy-making.

Kate, I'd cry too! What a sweet gesture by a son who knows what a good mom he has!

I'm with you on the memory ornaments on the tree. Our tree always has the angel DD made in Sunday School when she was 3 years old from a clothespin, a Kleenex tissue, and a pipe cleaner. Also the paper ornament with glitter glued on that DS made in kindergarten. And of course, the angel topper that I bought the first year we were married (so this is its 41st Christmas :)

Kate, that made *me* cry, and I'm not even your son's mother! What a beautiful gift. :)

My son has been making me bawl recently, he tells me "You're beautiful and you make beautiful quilts" several times a day, he's been doing this for about a month and it still brings a tear to my eye, I'm trying to positively reinforce it (he's 4.5), as I don't look forward to the day he doesn't say it!
