OT - Norton is driving me CRAZY!

There, I feel better now. My subscription expires in 30 days. Okay, I appreciated the reminder and I made a note to pay for a new one 27 days from now. But no, it wants me to update NOW! And there's nothing I can do to keep these annoying reminders from popping into view every 30 min. or so.

Note to self: put up with it. In 27 days you can buy McAffee.

I finally got so disgusted with Norton that I uninstalled it and installed CA Security Suite which is free from my ISP.

Can you give it the amount of time to wait before you get another notice? I remember that message, but I think I managed to get it to come up less frequently.

If that's the only problem you have with Norton, you may want to reconsider going with McAffee instead of Norton. Last fall I managed to somehow get a couple viruses on my computer and ended up taking it into the shop for removal. The technician there told me that sometimes switching virus software can cause problems because uninstall often leaves traces of itself around.

hmm... Okay, I will consider. Yes, other wise Norton works fine, other than from time to time I get fed up with it being so proprietary.

We had Norton on the computers at my library, and it was annoying beyond belief. It was hard to install, and worst to uninstall. We had to dig up the disks to remove it this year when the subscriptions ran out, which it reminded us about constantly, though not quite every 30 minutes. When the subscription was up, we went with AVG free software, seems to be working very well. I couldn't wait to get rid of Norton.

We have AVG 7.5 It wasn't free. To get rid of Norton completely was quite difficult. We actually had to send the computer to a techy shop and have them remove it. Really, really nearly impossible. But - finally, it is gone and we won't have Norton again. No problems at all ever with AVG. Polly

I agree totally about Norton. You need to keep in mind that uninstalling all the components of Norton IS VERY DIFFICULT and you'll need to go to the web to find instructions. I can't off hand remember where I went to do it, but it was necessary because all the little obscure components continually interfered with other programs, especially other antivirus programs like McAfee. I eventually got rid of all of it and downloaded the free Avast program, which updates automatically, has protected both of my computers with the help of Zone Alarm firewall, and it is free.
