point and click - OT sorta but not really

I used to have the ability to click on a link that was in someone's post and up would pop the addy. My explorer will no longer do that. Does anyone know if I lost a setting? I use Outlook Express for my newsgroups. It is a pain in the padoodie to cut and paste the addie when it worked so well before.

Thank you.

Are the web addresses at least blue and underlined?

And if they are, it might take a double-click now instead of a click. But who knows why. I gave up trying to figure out the mind of Explorer.

Have you actually opened the email or only looked at it in preview mode? You may need to open the email to activate the linkage.

check the settings in 'IE/tools/internet options/programs tab'. does it show OE as your email reader there? dont recall what else might be needing to be fixed in the 'advanced tab' for the links to work. should open links in a new window of IE for sure. the links have to have either www or http for them to be considered a link and therefore underlined for them to work. hmmmmmm, sorry a bit too early for me to think clearly yet. i'll check later if you've sorted the problem out. groggy, j.

the answer to this is likely to be the key, if they aren't, then it's likely to be a viewing/formatting problem. If they are then it's either an association issue, where outlook express has lost it's record of what action to take, or possibly a virus protection or other computer security issue where one program is being forbidden from launching another.

Have you tried it with IE already open? Have you rebooted?

I rebooted and that seems to have worked for now.

Yes, I think my DH has it set that way.

but given it used to work and an update wouldn't install until you reboot, it's not a concrete problem to be fixed. Remember the blue screen of death? Perfection is an impossibility, leave a computer running for a time and it gradually gets a bit more chaotic, stuff happens that might previously have caused a blue screen of death, but these days just leaves the odd bit of data not quite right and eventually one of those things gives you a noticeable problem and you think hmm, I have to reboot. Sometimes logging out and logging back in again works, just depends on what was going on that needed to be reset.
