Checking in and where's the scrapbox?

Feb 21, 2005 6 Replies

Just wanted to pop in to say Hi. I'm still around but haven't been able to post much. My ISP is no longer carrying newsgroups and until now, I couldn't get into Google. Thank you to each of you that contacted me to see if I was OK. I'm fine...just very busy "doing life" right now. DD is in the middle of competition season with the HS dance team and we are getting ready to enter our busist month yet for in state competition. Then in April we head to Gatlinburg to compete.

Glad to see the Jacqui is home and on her way to recovery. Jessie, have a great trip to FL. I'm about 2 hrs away from where Irene is so I doubt I'll have the chance to meet you but I wish I could.

Since I haven't been able to post...could someone please fill me in on where the scrapbox is? Based on my calculations, it should have been back to me by now but I know there were some weather related delays. Please send the scrap box update to me at my new email addy" sekw1024 AT tampabay DOT rr DOT com Thanks Susan

Part of the whole scrapbox thing that makes it fun for everyone is following it's progress accross the country! I guess we forgot to let everyone know the expectations that come with getting the scrapbox and I just noticed that we also forgot to list them on the website: Here are what you are expected to do:

A. When the person who currently has it posts that you are the next one to get it, acknowledge on the group that you will be at home to receive it. B. Let the group know that you have received it; C. Let the group know what you took out and what you put in; D. Let the group know who you are sending it to next.

I have modified the webpage to reflect the above, which has been the RCS scrapbox tradition for as long as it has been going aruind. I am truly sorry that we all missed out on the fun and excitement that people feel when they get the box. It is one of the fun things we do on RCS.

M-C, How do you get involved in the Scrapbox? Is it a prearranged list and goes until it gets to the end? Sandy

Yes it is Sandy. Susan W who is the mommy of the USA Scrapbox (we try from time to time to start one in Canada, but I am not sure we have ever gone beyond the planning stage) gets the scrapbox ready and puts in a call for participants. It really is a swap, which is why it is listed under swaps/current swaps on the website. There is a sign up period and then Susan puts a list together trying to minimize the distances and cost. We are each supposed to post as I mentionned below. When the scrapbox gets back to Susan, she takes a look at what is inside, cleans it up and may ask for donations before starting another round. It's a great way to exchange products and with so many companies out there and diffences in what we all buy and hoard, it can be great fun. A person is expected to put back an equal value of what he or she takes out. Because of the value of all the products in the scrapbox, you have to have been a regular poster for 3 months with 2-3 posts per week to qualify.

I'm really hoping that the person that currently has the scrapbox will let all of us know where it is. Typically you are only supposed to hold on to it for 2-3 days and then pass it on to the next person. That adds to the fun for everyone and allows the newbies and lurkers to see yet another reason to hang in there and post and participate. Susan has done a great job or coordinating the scrapbox for a while now.

I have the scrapbox and it's ready to go just ned to ge out to send it I'll do that today. Oops I will be back with the list and who it is going to. I want to be right about it. Sorry I've had it so long. Lin

Thanks for letting us know where the box is! I've been out of touch for a while now and was beginning to worry that the box was lost.

Can't wait to hear what goodies you found! Susan
