OT- could use help from the techies

Over the weekend, news.optonline.net and/or outlook express went wonky.

I can no longer reply or post to newsgroups. A 45 minute online tech from cablevision could not solve the problem. Interestingly, the test post I sent today DOES appear in google groups, but does not appear in OE. The replies I sent yesterday do not appear anywhere except in my sent folder.

So, I was forced to try and use google groups to post... BUT IT SHOWS MY EMAIL ADDY

I just hate the tons of spam I get when my addy goes out over usenet.

If Outlook Express/optonline is no longer working, how do i read and reply to posts? I have little hope it will be fixed. The problem appeared over the weekend and I originally thought it was my home computer. But I came into the office today and the problem persists.

Is there any way to make google NOT give out my address? Are there newsreaders that will access my hotmail accounts as well as newsgroups?

I'm just so frustrated

Dang! How do you see 'the properties in my post'??

In any case, my isp settings are as they were for more than two years (in my office) and two weeks on the new home computer.

For whatever reason, the ability to 'post' has disappeared.

45 mins with optonline, and even sharing the computer controls, and all the tech could think of is 'i'll submit it to engineering'

I *CAN* post to microsoft newsgroups.

It has GOT to be optonline. But what I need to know is how to read/post replies OTHER than google groups or Outlook Express (which is set up for the news.optonline.net server).

Google groups spreads my email addy over usenet. Optonline is not working with OE.

Yeeeeha! and Atta Girl. Way to go. I had nothing to offer in a techies battle but I surely do know how sweet it is to have survived the battle. Happy for you, Polly
