Hurrah! (OT)

We just finished my sons Eagle Scout project! We made 50 (!) owl nesting boxes. He turns 18 tomorrow so we finished just in time.

I am so tired of wielding a saw, drill or paintbrush!

I must say some of my quilting tools came in handy - graph paper for figuring out the most efficient cutting layouts. One of my rulers was also pressed into service for this task. Not to mention my skills in fabric - how many squares can you cut from this much.... translated nicely to how many pieces from one sheet of plywood.

My carpenters square which I use for squaring up quilts worked quite nicely on wood instead of fabric :-)

Extension cords and surge protectors from my studio were also put to use.

The only casualty was my folding table that I use for cutting. _Someone_ who shall be nameless drilled into my table. sigh. It's still usable but forever scarred.

Now, I can put my quilting tools back to quilting use. Once my sore muscles recover I may even quilt again!

marcella pooped but happy

Thanks. This one has been a bit crazy as the project he had planned fell apart last week. So, last Thursday we found a whole new project, got it approved Friday and had our first work day Saturday. It's been a bit nuts around here.

In our troop we have some kids with less involved parents. We are lucky to have great leaders who do step in and help above and beyond. Most boys can't do something this big without someone encouraging and guiding them though.

Yay!! I am sure there are a lot of homeless feathered friends out there that will be very grateful for all your hard work.

It is very cool to think that all these boxes could really become homes for owl families. Right now, we're just working on keeping the squirrels out before we can deliver them.

Congrats to you guys! That is one HECK of an achievement!!! O_o :)

I may end up asking for your advice ... I've got a Cubmaster and a WeBeloS II in the house ... :)

We've been lucky so far, though ... you mentioned in another post the parents who don't take much of an interest in their son's scouting ... we've been blessed (our Den most of all) with parents that truly care and spend as much time as my hubby does making it a wonderful experience! And that's a LOT!! :)

Well, he takes his driving test on Monday ;-) The rule was no eagle, no license. I thought it would spur him on. I thought wrong.

Yes, we've had neighbors stop by and want to get one or build their own. People have been very interested in the project which has been good.

Howdy!

Sounds like some summer-time income. ;-)

Congrats to all of you: Eagle Scouts don't get there alone.

Oh, the driver's license thing: Egads! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!! Danger-Danger-Will Robinson!!!! oops, sorry, flashback there. New drivers at our house had to drive alone unless a parent (their own) was in the car. "Yes, you have your license, I have 'your' car." Practice before & after the new license is how I came to know and love Metallica; 11:00 p.m., driving to from his girlfriend's house, the radio station said " Mandatory Metallica!" At least something good came out of that summer. LOL

Congratulations to the new Eagle Scout, and Happy Birthday, too.

It sure made a diff for DS when he went job hunting EVERY prospective employer talked to him about obtaining it and what he did to do so. One even told him that is why he got the job instead of the other candidate.

I'm Proud of your (my) Eagle Scout

Butterfly ( do you have the bumper sticker that says the above? I have ours up in the Studio:)

Oh, yeah! Since Cub scouts, we've done more fun and exciting things than we could have ever thought of on our own ... for the past four years, we've done the USS Alabama (in Mobile, AL) and MORE!! :)

But apparently (?) when DS hits Boy Scouts, the fun family trips like that will gone by ... :( Or is that a ploy to get the women-folk to stay home so the boys can have their own kind of fun? ;)
