OT: Pop update

Called Sally last night because I hadn't heard from her. She said Pop was still in ICU (well, duh!)and told me what all happened. Apparently there was an infection that was antibiotic-resistant, and resulted in a fluid pouch developing between his lungs and ribs. The surgery was able to take care of that and he has a drain that will have to be in place for a few days. He is in a LOT of pain (again, DUH!!), and is on a morphine pump. The doc said that if he did okay during the night, he would be moved to his own room sometime today.

However......he will more than likely be in the hospital for 2-3 weeks while they make sure everything is healing as it should be with no furthrer complications. Once he is allowed home, he will have a long-term IV pick (?) so that the home-health nurses can give him IV antibiotics once a week. Apparently the infection got into his bloodstream, and they want the antibiotics to get directly into his bloodstream as well. PLus, they figure there is less chance of him "forgetting" to take his pills.

So, that is where we are now. Sally sounded exhausted when I called her, and rightly so - she has been the one to stay with Pop during all of his hospital stays and has been the one taking care of him when he is at home. If we lived closer, I would help out, but.....

So, thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. Ken is doing fine, and Georgane (another SIL) is relaying the information to Kevin (her DH) in CA so that nobody is left out of the loop.

Larisa, tired and ready to take on the world....how does that happen?? lol

Lissa, sending you and the Pops big HUGS! Sorry to hear you guys are going through a rough time again but glad to hear they have things under control. It would seem everyone in the US is falling prey to the staph infection. Those nasty little buggers are really getting out of control.

We really need to talk soon and catch up! Let's set a time for a phone call?

HUGS, Tina
