OT Sewing but not quilting

I finished the chemo hats for mom. Yay! I ended up making an even twenty.... I have yet to learn the meaning of the word 'moderation'. :-S A few are knit, but most are made from fleece or Minkee. A few are simple cotton headcovers- for some reason the word 'babushka' keeps popping into my head- is that a word for a cotton kerchief wrapped around a lady's head? The few cotton hats are all lined with Minkee for softness. There's at least one hat to match each of the velour suits I bought for her- and a few extra hats.

Here's the pics-

20!? What an act of love for your mom Leslie. She will be overwhelmed. I'd love to see some of these modeled, especially the cotton lined with Minkee. I can't quite picture what they look like. She's going to be the most well dressed gal going to chemo. I hope it goes well for her and she has few side effects. Bless you both.

Those are just wonderful Leslie. I'm sure your Mom is going to truly appreciate the time, thought and love you've put into them. One little hint if I may. When my SIL was going through this I made her a soft knit beanie, similar to what they put on newborns in the hospital, to wear while she was sleeping. She was going through chemo in the winter and complained of always being cold when she was sleeping no matter how many blankets. My brother bought an electric blanket and even that didn't help her to not keep waking up cold . The little "sleep beanie" solved the problem. You can loose 7% to

55% of your body heat from your head depending on heart rate and how depressed your system is.

Sending good thoughts and prayers for your dear mother's successful recovery.

She'll be the 'talk of the town' with those outfits. Good for both of you:)

Those are wonderful, Leslie. You've done such a fine job. Naturally, I had to stay and peep around. You've become quite grand at hand-dyeing too. It is scary to ask . . . but what are you planning next? Polly

Well done, Leslie. That is a wonderful thing to have done. If I remember correctly, 'babushka' is Russian for grandmother (Jo will tell us!). But, the pictures of babushka in fairy tales always have the old lady with a kerchief around her head. . In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

I've just come back after looking at the photographs. I am completely bowled over. I had no idea there were so many different ways of making a soft hat; and I had forgotten about the velour suits. I think this is the most amazing gift you have prepared for your Mom. I dread to think how many tears of joy she will shed when she receives the parcel. And then the quilt. Oh boy, you are some daughter. . In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes

Okay Leslie. We're talking "over achiever" here! Do you know what it's like to curl up with a good book & just relax? Your mom is going to think it's Xmas all over again. Have you decided yet when you are going to visit with her?

I offered to be there with her for her first chemo session, but she said no. She's like me- she'd rather be alone hiding out in her own special place and licking her wounds (metaphorically speaking, of course!) than have any people around. So instead of being there in person, I'll be there in spirit in the hat she's wearing. And my precious Missy girl is in her final days with her cancer, so I do need to be here for when she's ready to depart for Rainbow Bridge. It won't be long now..... (my heart is seriously close to breaking)

{{{hugs}}} Leslie & Missy. I know how hard it is to wait as that inevitable time creeps closer and closer. You will know when it is the right thing to do.

Awww, Leslie -- I'm *so* sorry! I know how hard this sort of thing is for us human family members to bear, and coming on top of your mother's chemo has to make it that much more difficult. {{{Hugs}}}
