OT: snowdrops

For all those of you suffering winter cold (rather than scorching sun and humid heat) I just thought I'd report that two patches of the snowdrops in my garden are 1" above the ground. Spring is just around the corner!

Just curious where your hill is... cuz my hill (my house sits up on a nice little hill) -- is where the winter is just beginning! I want to move nearer to your hill.

I will keep you informed...cuz when spring hits here -- my front yard is awash with color. In the first couple of years we lived here, I had about

2500 tulips planted! It is gorgeous. I always wait anxiously -- so see how many bulbs the chippies and the squirrels dined on over the winter.

GROWL! I'm envious! We just got 9+ inches of the white stuff with another storm coming in tomorrow afternoon-Wed morning!! I think we got enough to make our little corner of the Maine set a record for December snow (45+").... we usually get most of our snow in Jan-March! We're a little concerned about what the rest of the winter will bring. When spring arrives at your house, Pat, send some over here!

Our hill is a sort of 'bridge' between the two highest points in Shropshire (UK). We are lower than both, but higher than the surrounding hillsides and valleys. We are latitude 52°26' N. Luckily, nobody seems to like snowdrop bulbs! Your garden sounds lovely. . In message , Kate G. writes

Oh, don't worry yet, Judy. We often get our heaviest snowfall at Easter. We don't get a smoothly progressing climate - we have 'weather' >gg< which is very unpredictable. Real Spring might happen anytime. Last year, our best, summery weather was in April!! Crazy. . In message , ME-Judy writes

omg what is with all this insanity. temps in the mid 40C in Oz and snow at Easter in the UK. pass, i'll take our no snow, no heat waves here at sea level anyday above those. if we want snow here, we can drive a few hours and ski down the side of a volcano for kicks. i just do not do heat or cold well at all anymore. was up to 24C(75F) here yesterday and down to 13C(54F) overnight. thats outside temps, our bedroom(upstairs) is warmer at night, enough so that we sometimes run the fan on low all night, well on my side of the bed. i warm up easily. have both windows wide open all night too. had the fan on for a couple of hours watching the elton john 60th to see in the new year to cool me and the room down a bit. i much prefer it here in camelot, thanks all the same, j. don't get a smoothly progressing climate - we have 'weather'

LOL! Don't remind me, Pat! ;) Much as I wish for slightly warmer weather, I'm not looking forward to our "where did spring go?" summer.

I have also noticed that the French almond trees are coming into blossom. They are in other peoples gardens not mine. Hugs Shirley

I guess that's the tradeoff for high prices for U.S. based wares. There's always a catch. :-) It does sound like you have almost perfect weather.

define perfect weather? Kathyl and i'll see how well be meet the criteria. tis like that here in auckland. other parts of the country dont have it so nice. they overheat and flood and freeze their patooties off in winter too. brrrrrrrrrr.

Oh I was just making a not so clear reference to your post about the prices for EQ. I was musing that maybe there was a "price" to pay for your lovely temperatures. My mother is visiting with us now and she's about to freeze to death....her native Iowan blood has thinned out while living in Texas nearly 35 years. Take your nap and don't pay any attention to my rattling. :-)

LOL we had 41.4 C yesterday Jeanne, but that will probably be our hotest day for the year. Todays predicted max is 21 but it is only 17.8 so I can't see it getting a great deal warmer than that. One of the benefits of living here on the coast is we usually only get one hot day then the next is cool. Would I move to another town, NO. Mum and dad have low 40's expected for the next week, I can;t handle that anymore.

Jeanne, I'm sure I'm bein' a jerk saying this, but please stop that!! Durn nigh every post you write you say something mean or disparagin' about yourself - and you deserve it the LEAST.

If you can't say something wonderful about a wonderful a person as you, then don't say anything at all. It breaks my heart to hear you say such things. You are one of my FAVORITE people - and you would NEVER stand for someone else to say such horrible things about themselves!!

Now, say "I, Jeanne, am a wonderful person. I am kind, considerate, sweet, funny, and great to talk to." Say it, or hand over your stash!!

Quilty hugs for a wonderful quilter!! Connie :)

We are having yet another blizzard here in the Maritimes - already down is 40cm and there is no sign yet that it is going to stop - winds are very high. New Year's Eve - we got around 40 cm too and the week before that we got 53 cm. Can someone please stop the snow machine - we're getting buried alive. We didn't have 40 cm the whole of last winter but we're sure paying for it this year. Oh well, I have a stew in the oven and I guess I'll just have to do some more applique since I can't go out and play. :-))
