OT: teaching again

Just wanted to let you know, that after waiting over 2 months, they've renewed my teaching contract at our local primary school. Only being paid for an hour a week this year, although working for an hour and a half! It isn't big money for sure, but it does mean that when the campervan insurance is up for renewal that I'll get some discount, because I am classed as a Civil servant, so that way I win.

I am teaching English (with a Cornish Accent!!) to children aged 6, 7 &

8 yrs old. I took my 1st class with the newbies (7yrs) on Monday and because there are already 2 English children in that class, it was amazing how much the others new or understood - going to be a tough class to keep up with ;p) By the end of the 1st class they were already asking, "How do I say.....in English?" Last year it took all year for them to get to that stage! This year the 6 year olds are new to me, usually start when they are 7, so I have their class this pm, so it will be interesting to see how they manage and again how fast that they may be.

It is such great fun to see them progress with the language and it is so important for when they are older, because certainly where we are based in France, for jobs it is much better to be able to speak English well, than any other language and they'll even excuse you if you can't speak much French, because English is the language of business. Ok, so I can't write in short sentences today, just babbling as usual!!!! I just wish that I had been younger when I had started with a foreign language, but ho um, I manage!

Anyway, just time to squeeze some quilting in before I go.......sshhhhh.....don't tell anyone......

Congratulations!!! Isn't it fun to watch the little ones when they grasp new things... When you see the light in their eyes and the smile on their face... when they "get it" -- you can't help be excited for them. I miss that about teaching!

Have fun... I wish I were there with you!

Good for you. It'll help you learn their language with 'their' proper enunciation. That was one thing I was disappointed with in HS, the teacher didn't know the different voice inflections.

Had to giggle at this part. You probably wouldn't be allowed to teach English in the US school where I teach -- the literacy coordinator says that people with accents shouldn't be allowed to teach English.

My college German professor was from England My family laughed at my German with the English (true English) accent!
