OT:tooth update

OK...my children do NOT fair well on valium, though their antics are amusing to their parents. DS went back no problem, and they gave him general anesthesia. He took a little while to wake up, but they said he did very well. Saw the tooth they took out and it's no wonder it was hurting him..that's a HUGE cavity! Now that he's seen it, he has promised to do a MUCH better job brushing his teeth (baby tooth with a cavity, dentist wouldn't do the filling because it's a tooth that's due to come out sometime within the next year anyway).

DD went back as DH was picking up DS (they have a back door pickup, so hubby drove the car around) and whimpered the entire way. When they came to get me, the nurse told me that DD refused to allow them to give her an IV for general anesthesia!! Instead, the used numbing gel, then novacaine, and finally nitrous. They said she did really well but she kept trying to bite her lip which is rather swollen right now.

I have scrips for both of them, but the dentist/doc said that tylenol (regular) should be enough for them and he also said that if there were any questions or problems we could call him (the office) and they would take care of anything we needed.

Because of the change in anesthesia, we should be getting a refund back from them (yay!), which will be a nice start to the year. However, looking forward, DD will probably have to do this again in about 8 or 9 months to have her canine teeth taken out.....orthodontist pointed out that she has a rather small mouth, so....but at elast her 6 year molars are already in, and there is enough space towards the back to allow her adult teeth to shift as needed - once the other 2 teeth are removed.

Phew! So we made it through and the children have both had some macaroni and cheese. They are currently waiting for the jello to be ready because dad promised them huge amounts with whipped cream...lol.

Dinner for them will be mac and cheese, applesauce, and ice cream for dessert (unless they want some of the snow cream we made and froze).

Catch you all later!

So glad all has gone pretty well, Larisa. Now you must figure out breakfast. Something soft. Maybe ice cream? Polly

Thought about that, but didn't think it would go over too well with DH. Instead, they are getting homemade doughnuts, a specialty that I remember making with my mother when I was younger. Not sure why/how I remembered how we did it, but I did and the doughnuts have been a HUGE hit.

Dog got me up at 450am and I've been awake since then. DD was already awake when I started to bring the dog downstairs....apparently the thought of a visit from the tooth fairy on the evening before Santa was just too much for her to handle. She was wide awake and had found the present from the tooth fairy and was reading the note that the tooth fairy left her. I had her go back to bed because it was so early - she only lasted another hour, and I'm pretty sure she was actually awake and playing the entire time.

I'm still waiting to see what DS says about his present and letter. He wanted a Wii game, but the tooth fairy pointed out that a Wii game was too expensive for a tooth that had to be pulled because of improper brushing. Gotta love the tooth fairy!

All of the swelling is gone, and aside from some speech issues and holes where the teeth were, both children are doing very well.

OUR tooth fairy doesn't come at all for teeth that have holes in! :0

I remember having gas as a 4 YO to have the fiur front lower teeth pulled as the Big Teeth were growing in behind them, like a shark! Ugh... The gas was horrid and gave me nightmares all the time I was under.

I had scrambled egg for tea that day, and soup for several days after... And ice cream, a real treat as Granny didn't have a fridge in those days, never mind a freezer! We bought the ice crEAM ON THE WAY HOME.

Big Sis and II were staying with my grandparents for the summer as Ma was having Little Sis. Bro stayed at home (he was only three) and went night fishing for trout with dad! I was jealous about that, but we got to visit lots of Scotish castles, Edinburgh Zoo, and all sorts. The teeth were a minor incident in a six week holiday from heaven!

Give that little fairy a hug from me (well both of them!). I do really understand what they went through!
