OT: UK TV likes?

I just started watching "As Time Goes By". I did find it amusing that BBC American offers translations for their shows. I'm not sure if that was tongue in cheek or not. Years ago I loved to watch "Butterflies" and "No Honestly".

On the DIY side, I love "House Invaders" (or is it "Home Invaders"?) They come in, take stuff you already have and transform a room or two. I think the US rip-off is called Freestyle. I enjoy the Brit version of "What Not to Wear" much more than the US version.

On the Sci fi side, I LOVE the new "Dr. Who". I wasn't as fond of the older version, maybe because I just wasn't ready to wrap my head around some of it back then. The only problem with BBC America is that we get a series, then it goes away and you don't get to see the next season/series for ages when I know perfectly well it's been out for a while. I've seen one ep of the second season of Dr. Who, then last night a season one ep, then the night before I saw a season three episode. Ugh... Looking forward to seeing "Torchwood" with the lovely Captain Jack again. And I loved "Afterlife", though all I ever saw was one series/season. Did it ever do more? I so want to know what happened!

Doctor Who!!!! The third season so far is awesome. My kids and I used to watch the Doctor back in the Tom Baker Days on TVOntario every weeknight. I got my DGD hooked on Doctor Who so much that she now says her name is Martha Rose :).I asked her why she isn't Rose Martha because Rose was the first parner with the Doctor and she said because Martha Rose sounds better.:)Her favourite episode is the Girl in the Fireplace. I didn't intentionally start her on the series but one night when I was watching her she got up and crawled into bed with me cause she woke up and she watched it with me. She asked a ton of questions about what she was watching and then she started asking if she could watch it with me instead of her beloved Scooby Doo! She is now watching some of the old Doctor's with me and she is enjoying those ones just as much (thank goodness as they aren't as violent) I now have a partner in the house who likes Sci Fi just as much as I do.My dearly missed grandmother got me hooked when I was about DGD's age by watching Rod Serling's show during my sleepovers at her house. I also am watching Robin Hood. ( recorded them all am now watching the first season0. I also like Life on Mars.I prefer the old Silent Witnesses over the new cast. My Husband and I absolutely loved the Sharpes series. They are showing them on the history channel here in Canada. I just love John Tam's voice and music style because of that series. I was pleasantly surprised by Sean Bean. I am used to seeing him as a villian in the movies..he was just evil in the remake of the Hitcher, he does a very good American accent. Donna inNWONtario

I love Sean Bean. I've seen him as a lot of villains but a lot of good guys too. I haven't seen the Hitcher remake, but I really liked the old one, starring another favorite of mine, Rutger Hauer. Another show on BBC-America that I liked, not sci-fi at all, was "Wild at Heart." I wonder if that one is coming back as well?

A lot of the shows can be looked up at the internet movie database. It will list: year(s) aired, number of seasons, main characters, main actors, and usually some blurb about the show. Debra in VA See my quilts at
