I knew about the outage in NYC several days before I heard anything on the radio because my DH flew into Newark and said that it was a total mess because all the planes from powerless La Guardia had to land in Newark due to the outage in NYC. He said there were hundreds of planes all over the tarmac and runways and that they were using luggage carts to guide them into available spaces. (I have yet to hear anything about that on the news). Then I had to tell him the power was out here and that we had several large trees down.
The main reason there was so little accurate coverage for STL is that it wasn't a tornado and there wasn't much rain. Apparently 90-100 MPH winds don't seem to matter unless you can call it a hurricane or a tornado. I have friends still w/o power and whose workplaces are still closed without power. No power in 100? temps is very difficult. It will get worse before it gets better.
