preschool nap blankie help needed

Aloha! How's everybody doing? Me? Too much anxiety. DD#1 is growing up too fast! She's starting preschool on Sept. 2 and I need help QUICK! I need to make her a nap blanket or sleeping bag. It has to be 20"X46". I have Veggie Tales panel fabric and farm print fabric she wants me to use. I want to make her a sleeping bag thing but only want to quilt the half that will be under her. I want it to be reversible. How do I connect the coverlet to go on top her to the quilted part that goes under her? I saw one online that looked sewn together up one side and only up 1/3 of the way on the other side. I think I could do that but then how do I finish the edges? I just figure out how to do it right. Anyone make something like this that can suggest how to make it? If you made one before, how did you make it? Anyone know of any free patterns online for this sort of thing? I couldn't find any in my bookmarked links...

Gosh, you don't have a lot of time! No pattern here, sorry, just wanted to drop in with some moral support. :) Good luck!

Yeah! I was actually thinking about some secret pockets because DD#1 hates naps and would love something to amuse herself with like little attached toys for the pockets but I don't think I'll get away with it. I also wanted to attach a little pillow. Jeanne*'s links are great. Geez. I barely have enough time to wipe my...brow! hee hee. These kids are running me ragged!

Wow! GMTA! This is EXACTLY what I want! Thank you so much. Haven't seen you around much so thanks for taking the time to reply! This is definitely what I will do.

Definitely french seams! Boy you gals are the best! So I'm going with Eveningrose's nap mat with a pillow and finishing it with french seams. Will also put strings on the bottom so DD#1 can roll it up and velcro it closed for easier storage in her cubby hole. That's from Jeanne*'s link. Okay, less anxiety now. Thanks so much you gals! I'm going to cut the fabric now and make my quilt sandwich tomorrow for the bottom/floor part. Hopefully I can quilt tomorrow while both DDs are away and DS#1 and I have some nappy time together (yes, now almost 5 months old - can you believe it?).

I think I might try and make myself something similar with all my clothes that I can't take when I move but don't want to throw away! Great for snuggling on the couch.

And I finished it last night!! It was pretty easy to do. I rounded the corners of the bag and the blankie so the french seams were easier to do. I also attached a pillow case and put a little removable pillow inside it. Couldn't figure out how to do the ties without them being distracting so left those out. I got it reversible with Veggie Tales on one side and farm animals on the other. The farm animal fabric was from Anna Belle who I haven't seen post in a while...I'll take a pic when it comes home for a washing at the end of the week. I made it 20" X 46" per the preschool requirements. It so cute and little. Guess yours will be a wee bit bigger, eh, Charlie? ;0) I bet a scrap flannel one or denim one would be snuggly, too. Wish I had more time!!!!
