It is a corn snake. We got it when it was about 6" - 8" long (about 4 months ago). It is now about 18" long. It will let you pick it up, but squiggles. Of course my fav is Gallagher, the Welshie, but second in line is the chameleon. A very interesting lizzard. Fun to watch and fun to hold.

I keep thinking I'm going to do this picture in embroidery. A shimmery white thread.

On my "To do Someday" list.

One thing I have learned about having birds around my home, they are VERY emotional. Usually when one buys a bird of any sort, the pet stores tell you that you are in for the long haul. They adopt you as their own and they have a really hard time of it when they lose thier family. When we got this tiel, we were told that we had better know what we are in for since they live for many many years and they do not take kindly to being passed on to other people. The ones you have may just be suffering from a broken heart and most likely will need a whole lot of patience and loving. (maybe you might be able to bring them around, maybe) Seems that maybe Omar was the wife's bird? ~KK in BC~ who really didnt help much, sorry.

Hi Paulette,=20

I think you mean me.....parrots like African Greys live for a very, very long time. As such it will take more than 5 months for negative behavior to change. They are not dogs with feathers....

It may help if you think of them as a child, and possibly a child who has been abused or ignored (why else would they not be friendly?) their entire lives. It will take quite some time to get them to come around and trust you. Maybe even years.

My newest 'child,' a 5-year old Moluccon Cockatoo, who was a hand fed baby, lived in a bar before she came to live with us. Besides the bad atmosphere (smoking, yelling, etc) I believe she was basically ignored her entire life, which is very emotionally damaging to a hand fed baby who has imprinte don humans! Anyway, whe was extremely skittish and afraid of being handled or having people near her when we got her. We have had a year now and she is *just* beginning to wilfully come to me instead of flying off, screaming, in the opposite direction! =20

Big birds take a lot of patience. But if you love 'em, it's worth it.

Go ahead and email me off-list if you want to chat about it more!

Gloworm honey.

Jack Russell and Boston Mix. Oh my talk about hyper. :-)

My Boston Terrier/Traveling salesman mix can be a handful when he wants, but he is my Pet Therapy boy.

GrammyKathy,

You need to talk to your vet about dominance exercises with Munchkin. She needs to know you are the alpha female in the house. Given she's a Peek, she should be small enough to do what I learned with Cliff when he would attempt to mount anything that moved except for me...

Munchkin should be gently flipped on her side with one hand holding the bottom foreleg and that arm putting pressure on her neck (this will NOT hurt the dog), the other hand holding the bottom hind leg and arm putting pressure on the hips.

Do not make eye contact with her or any noise until she is completely still. She will struggle. Apply more constant pressure with both arms until she is still and seemingly calm. Then tell her she's a good girl and give lots of praise and love.

Repeat the above regularly but at random times and in different rooms of the house. Don't be so regular that she sees it coming. :-)

This did wonders for Cliff the Mutt from a very early age.

Worked on my neighbors Australian Shepard puppy. Held that dog down in a fight for 20+ minutes till she calmed down. I almost lost that battle. :-) She never pulled me down with a leash again.

Try it. It may help.

Just one QI right now, a cat named 'Dorable Dora. She's part Siamese and part calico, looks like a long-haired Siamese. And she has the bluest eyes you ever saw! She prefers to lay on quilts after they are finished, but will occasionally curl up on a bunch of fabric if she can open the door to the stash cabinets. And yes, she can open cupboard doors. Dora is 8 years old now, has a tremendously sweet disposition (except toward dogs, she loathes them) and the only time she gets outdoors is in a special cage on my mother's porch. She loves to sit out there in the cool morning air and watch the birds at the birdbath.

That is a big golden. We have 1 golden Georgia pooch. She is 2 and a real bundle of energy. SHe thinks she is a lap dog. There are also

2 kitties here. I am a reformed cat hater. These two have stolen my heart. Lilly is a siberian cat and Maki is a sort of siamese mix (not very siamese however ; )

When Georgia had knee surgery last winter the vet suggested subbing out some of her food with green beans to help keep weight down since she couldn't move for 6 weeks. (I gained 5 lbs myself sitting with her) She loves green beans. My last golden Lea had hip problems as she aged and had she been less weight she probably would have been a lot more comfy. She had a pretty large caboose! Wish I had known about the green beans for her. Anyone have tips for a fat cat? Maki loves to eat! Samson is growing into a very handsome pooch, btw. Taria

Liz-

My Simon is Golden Retriever and Chow, but he looks like a golden lab with a black/purple tongue. It's rather shocking the first time people meet him as they usually get a black tongued kiss and sure aren't expecting that black color. Neither we nor our dog trainer has ever seen any Chow behavior from him, tho. It's like all he got was the tongue color.

Dexter is a lab/chow mix, too. I think this particular mix is wonderful! Dexter doesn't know he's part chow; he exhibits lab behavior, but he also has the black tongue.

I have Jamie, 9 year old orange medium hair length cat, then Ernie, 2 year old black and white polydactyl (extra toes, hence the name! 22 total) short haired kitty; Phoebe, 1 year old black shorthaired kitty (the one that likes to 'ninny' on her little pillow) and Emma. 1 year old blue-grey and white shorthaired kitty (rescued from a shopping cart last July 4th). Of the canine variety I currently have only one, Clifford the Medium Red Dog. Pictures of most (Cliffy is a bit wary of the camera) can be found at
