Quilt Dating

Anyone know anything about dating quilts? I have a quilt top that I found at a yard sale a while ago. It's pieced, hand sewn, and obviously made from old shirts and/or blouses. The "blocks" are made from muslin, and she drew the pattern she intended to quilt on the muslin with pencil. In some of the little pieces, it looks like she used an old baseball shirt or???? something with baseball team names on it. I'm sure it's cotton. I can vaguely make out "giants", "yankees" and "sox" though it looks like she tried very hard to disguise the names, because they don't really "go" with the rest of the pieces. Also, one of the names is "senators" and it looks like maybe an old rendition of the capital building. Anyone have any ideas? A "ballpark" (so to speak) estimate on the year?

Howdy! Practice safety.

That goes pretty much for any dating you do.

And then just sit back and enjoy the ride.

delurking to answer a question I actually might know something about. I know that the "Washington Sentors" baseball team moved to Texas and became the "Texas Rangers" in 1972. I hope this helps you. If I could see the fabric I might could tell you more. My husband is a huge TX Rangers and Sentors fan.

That was the second Washington Senators team. The original Washington Senators moved to Minnesota in 1961 and became the Minnesota Twins. Then a new expansion team was started, also called the Washington Senators.

Me, I'd just meet somewhere for coffee first, to see if you really feel comfortable getting more involved.

Well at least they changed their name when they moved. I still roll my eyes or shake my head every time I hear *Utah* Jazz. :P

Well, once we got comfortable with each other, we'd cuddle -- of course! :-) And, later on, we'd probably sleep together ...

And afterwards we could snuggle together on the couch watching the morning news with a cup of coffee.

You guys are all too cute! I just KNEW those replies would come up the instant I typed in the subject line...... but just coudn't think of any other way to phrase it. Love all the clever answers - is about the only "dating" I've had lately!

sometimes being a smart A is too easy....

I have an old crazy quilt I inherited from some ancestral sewer and asked the same question at a quilt show. There are quilt appraisers who can date quilts (for a fee of like $50 or so) and also provide a glimpse into the history of your quilt's era. (I'm curious but it's hard to get me to part with my money so I haven't done it yet.) You might check at a LQS for some names of someone in your area. I know there is one up here in Skagit County, so you might need to head north for your date!! *S*

Thanks Annie - that's a great idea. I wouldn't mind making a trek up to Skagit County one bit...... I love it up there!
