Quilt Guild Disapointment

The guild that I am in has both daytime and evening meetings. There are just too many of us to all attend one meeting.

I live in South East Florida and belong to a great guild. There is always room for visitors and new members. In Feburary the guest speaker is Carol Taylor and she will spend the week teaching classes to us. There is another guild in my area that is just as great we share alot of guest speakers and classes with them. There is a large quilt show every year, rotating one year my guild the next year the other guild. I wish you could enjoy us.

Jan,

Don't take it personally. Too bad you didn't call or email someone before you went.

About 2 years ago - or more - the guild size was getting way too large for the space. The majority didn't want to move to a new location, and even if they could find one, it would have been prohibitively expensive. The Community Center was gently enforcing the occupany requirements for the meeting room. So the board/guild decided to cap the membership. For months they just waited for people to not renew or ....leave in other ways. And they started a waiting list.

They also insisted that all members MUST renew memberships in the month they are due. Otherwise, they would expire. When they got down to the "new" membership number, they started letting new people in.

You just need to get yourself on the list. I think, last I heard, there were 10 people waiting. If you need the address, email me. It goes by postmark date.

There were a couple of months last year where they were even giving paid members ticket numbers to make sure they didn't exceed the room limit. It's especially an issue during the season when the snowbirds in town.

So it was really a matter of space.

I must say it is a really well-run guild. The meetings always run smoothly. They make an attempt to get speakers in (national and local) for the meetings. And they have a lot of other activities (if you're interested).

If you want the lowdown on the other guilds in the area (PBS & CS), let me know.

We are working on finishing our UFO's currently. The number drawn last week was #5 - that scout quilt that will need quilting. I have two months to finish the top. Think I'll get it done in time?

Is it time for a chocolate run yet?

Not if you're like me! LOL I'm just putting the borders on a Lone Star I started around 1999. DH keeps making "helpful" suggestions like "why don't you use the fabric from the point in the border?" He hasn't quite grasped that all the fabric has been discontinued for half a decade. *grin*

Always!
