Quilt shops in Oklahoma?

Jan,

Yes, people around here take sports teams *very* seriously. I usually try to avoid conversations about sports teams around here. Which quilting machine do you have? I am thinking about the Classic Plus.

Well, I may just decide to make a road trip to Kansas sometime. Is the MQS a show for long arm quilters? I'm guessing the web site will have more info as it gets closer to show time.

Howdy!

Oh, good one, Karen. As Queen of the Beggars I'm proud to see you sharpening your skills.

Btw, we lived in Calif. twice, in the Bay Area, for short bouts. Saw the ocean, yeah, it's wet, just like when I saw the ocean on the other side of the country; yep, that's water, all right. Gulf of Mexico is close enough, for me, thnaks. I like dry land and the Central Time Zone. 8->

Cheers!

Hey Karen! Welcome back! I remember you from your "Hill" a few years ago. We were in a few swaps together, too. I knew I had remembered someone else from Norman, so I looked on one of my old directories: Susan Ford! Do you remember her? I know she hasn't been on the NG for a long time, but you might run into her one day while shopping! Wouldn't that be something?! Good luck in your new home, and hope to see you more often!

Lol.. same here in KC... but in OK, the college teams are very serious business where other places it's the pro teams.

I have the Gammill Classic Plus. And I did have the hyrdraulic lift added in... which I really recommend. If you haven't noticed, the back and front of the table are different heights on the handles, so this way you don't have to decide which you want and live with it. It also allows for anyone else to play, or adjust up and down an inch to relieve fatigue or raise to avoid small children (say 4 years old?!) getting to the top. ;-) There are a few longarm groups where you can learn more about all the machines.... mqp on yahoo, longarmchat.com are both friendly places. Have fun!

Yes, it's Machine Quilter's Showcase and in order to enter a quilt, it has to be quilted on a machine on a track system....(midarm and short arm qualify as long as on a track system I think) I'm pretty sure that's the way it's worded... there's another one for machine quilters in NH called MQX. They also have tons of classes and shopping... but the real lure for me is the classes, many big names come to teach so I don't have to travel to them.

And I'm not sure on the mileage driving time from OKC to Springfield MO, but a few of us hope to meet up there in Sept... see the other post for those dates and site ;-)

I came across this sort of neat site the other day:

Thanks, but that's even further than Houston for me. Maybe someday I will make it to the Houston show. Karen

Hi Vickie Yep, that was back when we were stationed at Hill AFB in Utah. Yes, I remember Susan. I will look to see if I can find one of my old directories and look Susan up. Maybe she's still around here. Thanks

I hadn't noticed that about the Classic Plus. That's good to know. Was it difficult to add in the hydraulic lift? I wonder how difficult it would be to add new features to the machine after it is already set up. Thanks for the group reccomendations. I will check them out.

Sorry to hear that, I'm really not good at juding distance on a map. There is a sub- group of this group for Houston.... maybe someone can post a direct link? As they get closer they discuss & trade info for meet ups etc.

How difficult to add in is probably a subjective question depending on your available resources. Are the people in your life handy and helpful? Do you have the $$ to pay a service person if they aren't? Anything can be added on as you go. And please don't misunderstand, you can use either side regardless. You will find a height that is comfortable for you and has less strain on your weak spots and it's easier if you can adjust to that. I also have high hopes that my daughter will play with me as she gets older, so I had other motivating factors. DH called the Gammill Techs directly and spoke with them on adding and what would be involved later down the road. He's the one that made the call to just put it in at delivery time rather than adding on later. (he's a keeper!)

And for what it's worth, most of the larger machines do have a hydraulic lift option, it's just called different "titles" for lack of a better phrase... I need more coffee this morning....

Ah well then. You know much more about it than I do! Though there are times when it all becomes wearing. I had some moments of "I want my old life back" after we moved. Now "I want my old body back!!" is my cry. KJ

I wouldn't think it's too bad. However I just did an Iowa City to Amarillo road trip through OKC in one day (two drivers) so I might not be the best judge of what's doable. I think I've got trucker genes in me. We stayed

3.5 days and did it all over again. On the way down, the car's air conditioning pooped out while in Kansas....at the start of the heat wave. We used the old 4-80 AC....rolled down the windows and went 80 MPH. Pretty fun to turn up the tunes really loud and sing! It behaved on the way home...good thing, since the temperature was registering 108 degrees! KJ
