Quilted Changing Pad

I have searched the RCTQ archives, I've done a Google search and while I get a gazillion (or a google) results for baby quilts, I can't seem to narrow it down to what I really want.

A long time ago, I had a bookmark for a quilted changing pad thing that was so awesome. It had a backing on it that was kind of like a plastic, but washable. It had all these pockets in it for you to store wipes and such. It was soft and quilted on the top side. It folded up and then the straps wrapped around it (to hold it closed) but the "straps" also became it's "handles".

Has anyone seen this pattern or know what I am talking about? I would really love to find this again and make it for my forthcoming.

If I get lucky enough to make it to the show, I will probably run across it there, but I'm not counting on that happening right now.

Thanks! Tina

Make up your own! DH was in charge of changing Pillbug when we drove to see grandparents (7-hour drive), so he gave me the specs. He wanted it extra long, with pockets at both end, plus a little extra cushioning for Pillbug's head. So, I made one up and used two layers of batting so that it was extra soft. I put jiffy grip on the back so that it would not slip off the changing table in the fast food bathrooms.

I have a pattern for one that sounds alot like you described. When finished it folds in half and you use the handles on either end to carry it. There is also a pouch that when laid down hangs off the end for your diapers, wipes, etc. I can't currently find a link to it online. If you don't find what you need and want this one, contact me off list (hippenc at yahoo dot com).

Yes ladies, I'm going to be a GRANDMA! Next June!

After the initial shock wore off, I'm starting to happy dance a little...

Charlotte, yours sounds exactly like the one I had the pattern bookmarked for!

I will look through all the links that Jeanne sent (thanks!) and if I don't run across it in there or at the show (if I get to go) then I will definitely be contacting you privately. Thanks!

By the way ladies - two things,

  1. I may not make it to the show at all this year. I have grown another ovarian tumor and the Ob/Gyn has finally decided it is time to pull the plumbing. I have an appointment at 2:00 tomorrow afternoon or the final decision making and scheduling.

  1. See #1 above - the forthcoming is certainly not MINE! OMG, I'd be having heart attack for sure! My daughter and hers truly, Alex are due June 1, 2008!

Hugs and thanks Tina

That would really work well for the changing pad, Tina. It would be very easy to clean, and would prevent any 'accidents' from getting to the surface underneath if she were say changing the baby on a bed or the floor at a friends house, etc. (I've had to do that a time or two myself and was thankful I had an absorbent and waterproof changing mat)

So glad you posted that link Liz!! Last week my son had a soccer game and the grass was still very, very wet. One family there had a neat little blanket that looked to be flannel on one side and then a waterproof fabric on the other. It had a company logo embroidered on it. I thought that would be so handy for my kids and such a neat idea. I was going to ask how they got their hands on it, but then I then thought - I could make one of those, if only I could find a good waterproof fabric for the underside. I was planning to check the local JoAnns and other places to see what I found available, but haven't had the chance yet. I think I will still check them out, but this would be great depending on what I find available in the stores!!!

Charlotte,

My grandbaby is due 11/11, and I would love to make one like Tina. Any chance you can photocopy a picture of the end product and send it to me? I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks,

I don't have pics of one that I've made. I have a free pattern for one that I downloaded online which seems to no longer be available.

That one got out before I was done -

Anyways. Since I don't have any of my own pics and the pattern is not my design I don't feel comfortable posting it. Sorry Jeanne. Maybe Boca Jan can post pics for everyone when she gets hers finished. What do you think? Nothing like a little pressure for you!!
