quilting a yellow brick road quilt

Hi, I've just finished a YBR type quilt, and I don't have a clue how to quilt it! How have people quilted their YBR quilts?

I just did a diagonal grid. I left the border while I think about it! The quilt seems to be surviving with minimal quilting!

I did back it with fleece, so that might make a difference.

I stitched in the ditches--around the outside of each block and then one direction in each block, whichever way kind of divided the block in half.

For my nephew's quilt I just did an all over meander, not small enough to be a stipple, but dense enough to hold it all together. Said quilt has been through the wash at least once a week for the last two years and is still holding up fine.

The one I did several years ago was [machine] done in meandering stars, since many of the fabrics had celestial themes. Is there a motif in one or more of your fabrics that you want to repeat?

I've done several YBRs and have quilted all but one with an all-over meander. I did one with a diagonal grid, but like the meandering better. All those straight lines in the piecing seemed to call for some curves in the quilting. The fabrics I used were all pretty busy prints, so it seemed there was no point in trying to do anything more elaborate with the quilting.

I did a YBR a few years back, but mine ended up being a "Doggie Brick Road", since I used all dog prints. You can see it at , but I suspect that the quilting I used wouldn't work on one that isn't the same "theme" as mine. LOL!

Hi Sarah

I've done two or three and always did a minimal stitch in the ditch quilting. Enough the hold the layers together.
