quilting magazins - recommendations please

So DH will be in the States in April for one week and I'd like him to bring me some magazines :-) Which one can you recommend ? I prefer traditional quilts or even paper pieced stuff, but I'm not so much in art quilts ( like to look at them, but don't want to make one ) And where can you buy those magazins ? In 'normal ' malls or does he have to go to a LQS ? TIA Heidi from Germany (can't wait to order my fabrics :-) )

Howdy! I'm looking at the April 2005 issue of Quilter's Newsletter and see several traditional quilt articles, and the very traditional appliqué on the cover done by Margaret E. Docherty of the U.K.. QNM is the only monthly quilt mag I get; it leads me to so many other resources.

Heidi, ask him to get a variety; then you'll be able to decide which suits you best. Where to look: many of the grocery stores carry quilt magazines, as do the fabric shops, both the chains (JoAnn's and Hancocks) and many of the quilt shops. I've seen quilt magazines at all the Barnes&Noble stores, and several other book stores. To your husband: happy hunting! & a pleasant trip.

Ragmop/Sandy --if he were coming to n.Tx. he could meet up w/ a quilter or 2 or 5 who would deliver a pile of magazines to him ;-D

What part of the country will he be in? It may help to narrow down where he shops if we can give some "regional input". I know where I am - in Northern California, the LQS always have a few quilt magazines & JoAnns often has a variety to choose from, but the Borders book store near by has the largest selection of magazines. And . . . as someone else mentioned, if any of us are nearby where he is, we might be able to bring him some that we are no longer interested in keeping! I also really enjoy Magic Patch - Patchwork & Quilting, which is a European magazine & a newish magazine that I've only found in LQS called DEsigner's Quarters. Their claim to fame is that they don't have any advertising - however, all the patterns are from fabric manufacturers, but it is presented very professionaly & they usually highlight someone famous in the quilting industry. Here's their website:

Since we're on the subject of reading material:) I'm really, really trying not to buy anymore books - but I saw one yesterday at my LQS that I couldn't resist! It's called Quilting the Garden by Barb Adams & Alma Allen. It's heavy on applique & I just love the designs.
