Quilting Wish list

I would like to get a very large serving of 'stick-to-it-ness' so I can get a few dozen half-done projects finished..... (most of them are non-quilty projects). I'm a great starter and a lousy finisher. I seem to have the attention span of a hyper-active 3 yr. old. (sigh)

Today we picked up my new/old bedroom furniture and refinishing those pieces are now added to my list. (another BIG sigh) And parking my truck in the garage this winter is never gonna happen with this refinishing project stored in there.

no ideas. I did buy the pattern BQ2 and BQ (used it with my RCTQ BOM a couple years ago). Did I mention that I did a Christmas/winter swap and should get those blocks in the next few weeks? :) Any and all suggestions will be printed out and put with the blocks.

Have you looked at the thumbnail groups that you have set out for us, yourself? The reason I ask is that I often think that thumbnails give good clues as to what to do with blocks. I think you might find that there are several in a set that could very well 'go' into another set, after you have withdrawn all the blue and white ones you need for your niece's quilt. Some of your sets are more closely connected than the others. For instance the 'fall' set and the 'green and purple' set. As I was looking at the sets, I thought that from one of the other sets could go in the Fall set, for instance. I think you could do that really well, to make a few large co-ordinated quilts. Then you would be left with fewer with unknown destinations. Would that be a way to start? . In message , maryd writes

I noticed that when I was putting them on the design wall. :) It felt good to get into the blocks and play last night but alas tonight I will have to put them away. But I do know where they were waiting now and I'll remember when I have time to do more.

I think Leslie probably has more "stick-to-it-ness" than most of us! How many purses did she make? And got a website designed? And a logo picked out? Her projects are finished before most of mine get the first stitch in! Sure, she may have a few on the waiting list.....but I don't think it's from a lack of follow through. Just a lack of time and an over abundance of creativity! Refinishing furniture? Sigh. I need a nap just reading this!

I think it's easier to organize (though more initial work) when you have a smaller space, IMHO ... when you have less space, it's more to your benefit to organize and make the most of your space!! And it's easier to keep tidy!!

I have a large "studio" (combination graphics studio and sewing studio - complete with a screen-printing workshop!!) downstairs, but hardly ever have the energy to run downstairs (health problems) and work (and then have to run right back up to swap out laundry - a constant thing in our house) ... so I converted a walk-in hall closet into a sewing space. Everything is kept tidy and in it's place. Though, to be honest, for want of larger workspace, I sew most often on our dining room table (it's HUGE and perfect for basting quilts!!). But hubby has said that he'll be buyin' me a convertible sewing table for Christmas so I can keep my machine out 24/7 if I want to and can make it look nice when company comes.

What's your biggest problem area? Is it managing your stash? Or optimizing your actual sewing space? Or keeping projects organized?

Trust me, if I can organize and optimize my wee space, you can, too! :)

Um ... people with short attention spans are usually the most creative and imaginative. You can learn self-discipline (to finish those projects) but you can't "learn" creativity and imagination!! :)

The refinishing project sounds like fun (though lots of work)!! I hope you'll post pics when you're done ... if it turns out half as nice as your sewing room (which I KNOW it will!!), well, I'll be pea-green!! Just call me jealous!! :)

Well the pecans are already cracked, I just need someone to help me pick the shells clean. And think of the chocolate pralines to munch on while fondling fabric.

My quilt room used to be the master bedroom (largest room in the house) and my home is only one level so no running up and down stairs.

Your help would be tremendous and we could play on my Hinterberg Machine Quilting frame once the re-organization is complete. Just think Dove Chocolate and maybe a new quilt to take home.

I love EQ. I have number 5 and need my fabric organized so I can scan it and put the measurements into a database. That way I can just select the fabric I want when I design a new quilt in EQ. Instead of having a paste up book of all my fabric I will have it all at my fingertips on the 'puter.

Lack of time??? Oh, Kathyl, I had a jolly LOL reading that! The ONLY thing I HAVE to do is feed The HairyButt Gang every day and pay my bills as they come in. The rest of my life is all my own to do anything I want to do..... or not do. No, time is surely not the issue. And Pat, 'hyper-active three year olds' also have some really 'unique' traits! This is not always a good thing..... VBG

Ok....I stand corrected! LOL :-) Maybe it isn't the time.....perhaps it's just lack of interest at that particular time in that particular project. I'll still go with the excess creativity though. (And I'm glad I could give you a jolly LOL!)

Have you seen the tv commercial where the young teen girl gets a pony for Christmas instead of the telephone or music-playing thingie everyone else received? The pony is eating the roof off the dog house and she says he bites. It's just so cute. I know just how she feels.

Okay, now I think you're just trying to make me jealous!!! OMG, that must be SO nice!! My hubby would NEVER go for that ... I'm really lucky that I was able to confiscate the hall closet for my upstairs needs!! Every once in a while, I catch him trying to take it back over!!

My quilting room is a converted garage (though, really, I'd rather it be converted MORE: better heating, carpet, new, colorful paint job ... the list goes on!!) ... and my quilting room has to share the space with my graphics studio ... not that bad, I guess. It could be worse. But when I hear about rooms like you've got, I get pea-green!!!

If what you told me above wasn't bad enough .... you have a Hinterberg?!! I've gone beyond pea-green!! Do you have ANY idea how much I've been lusting after one of those??!! Wow!! I'm going to assume that you love it as much as I love the fantasy of having one!!

But seriously, I would love to help ... it would be a good use of my terrible OCD ... and it would be FUN!! You don't even need to tempt me with chocolate! :)

Soooo .... if you're serious, you tell me when and how to get there, and I'll pack up the quilt-mobile (so called because of the quilty bumper stickers) and be on my way! ;)

And I'll bring a nice wine to go with the chocolate pralines!!
