Re: EQ6 (or 5)

For anyone like me who is using EQ5 or 6 on 'a wing and a prayer', I found this last night on the EQ website

Its a Mystery Quilt that you draw yourself in EQ, and it really leads you by the hand. Apparently they did it some years ago, and have updated it for EQ 5 and 6.

So far there is: Lesson 1. which tells you how to set up the quilt (sizes, borders, etc. Lesson 2. A 6" block your draw in the easy Easydraw way and Lesson 3 a 6" block you make 3 of. This is drawn using grids and clicks I didn't know existed

Now I will go into the handbook and read the appropriate pages.

Looking at the more advanced blocks I am guessing that you learn to draw too - not tried that yet - too much of a coward, so it will be good to have EQ holding my hand.

I've decided that I may as well make the quilt, but if you only want to do it as a lesson it seems an easy way to add to your knowledge - which in my case is very little.

Thank you! This looks like a great way to get in some practice, which I need. I have done some of the cookbook lessons, but whenever I go to actually use it on a project I am lost.

I have all the EQ5 books, and when I upgraded to EQ6, I got the one that goes with that. I do all the lessons in the books, and then usually promptly forget most of them. I have been trying to really master at least one lesson a week so I am not so totally lost. I use the books a lot when I am designing simple things. I'm terrible at the Easydraw, and other drawing projects. Thanks for posting the link.

Oooh, thank you! Learning EQ5/6 is at the top of my list for summer vacation. About all I've been doing is drawing paper-piecing blocks in EQ5.

Howdy!

When it involves math and art and learning, can't you get a school/college/continuing ed. credit for this, Kay?

Don't I wish!!!

It does look like I'll be in an elementary school next year. I can tie math to quilting and maybe make a quilt with the class. I might even get to teach in a computer lab an hour a week. HURRAY!! I can read aloud things like the Quiltmaker's Journey.

I bought the EQ6 upgrade when it was released but waited to upgrade our computer before installing it which we did this week. It is quite different in many respects to EQ5 with some really great additions. Working my way through the manual, I just love it. My goal is to do some more designing this year using the software.

I have been using EQ since 99 I have both 4 & 5 they have a group that you can join called INFO-EQ, that is the best tec support that I have ever seen for a computer program. They also have a forum on their web site that you can ask questions on..

Thanks Sally, Yes, I would say I use my EQ5 "on a wing and lots of prayers". Sometimes it is fun and sometimes just frustrating. I know, my own fault for not doing the lessons but life just keeps getting in the way.

I am sure going to give this "Mystery Quilt" a go.
