RE: HELP Please URGENT but not serious

I'm familiar with the 1230 and hope they are similar. What happens if you drop the feed dogs and DON'T set the stitch length to zero? ( I never bothered; don't think you would have to - YOU are controlling the stitch length by moving the fabric.) What happens if you don't drop the feed dogs and do set the stitch length to zero. ( Just curious.) Are you sure and dead certain that you have it threaded right including the bobbin? Have you checked for a contrary evil snip of thread in the bobbin case? Have you put in a new needle and done that right? Report back. Polly

It sounds to me as if you might not have let down the presser foot?

You shouldn't need to set the stitch length to zero, if you have the feed dogs down - I've never heard that that would cause a problem, but it might? First thing is to take out the bobbin and replace it making sure it is the right way round and the thread has gone into the spring properly (I did that wrong for the first time just a couple of weeks ago, when I was in a rush and tired!); then check that the top thread is coming off the spool in the right direction; then re-thread the machine. Also check that the lever of the darning foot is on top of the needle post thingy!

I seems that I have to sneak up on my machine ... set it up for normal straight stitch with feed dogs down and foot 1, do a couple of small stitches, remove foot & drop feed dogs, hold fabric extremely taut (tighter than the hoop it is in!) pretend I don't care if it works or not and then proceed to stitch slowly.

This is a bit much to ask of my daughter who is only just starting out on her stitching adventures, so I've written a note to her teacher ( she had tried to do the work in class but the class sm she was assigned also had "issues" that the teacher hadn't been able to sort) to try and get an extension on her deadline.

Will contact my SM shop tomorrow morning to see what they say.

I can't believe I was FMQing two months ago with no problems (well with the bobbin thread at least) at all!

I bought 10 bobbins to cover his costs for a "free" service

Sometimes they like a trip in the car. i also threaten to defenestrate mine when it misbehaves (likewise my laptop). They don't like to be threatened, either.

I bet the jiggling in the car just flapped that ooja-ma-flip back into the onna-whatsit so that it worked again. More than likely a hair had floated into the tension mechanism and ground the whole thing to a halt.

A while since, I wanted to make a furoshimi to wrap a couple of bottles of wine for a present. "Right," says I, "This is easy. Nice piece of silk. Bung it through the overlocker (serger) four times and Bob's your happy uncle!" "Nah!" says the machine (BIG Huskylock) "I won't play!" It took four bespangled hours to do those four 24" edges! And yes, it was too late for the present giving.

Next day? Slipped through like an advert!
