Re: HGTV canceling Simply Quilts

Just to let all of you know, I received this e-mail from the quilt shop, A Stitch in Time about the HGTV fiasco. Thought I'd pass it on just in case some of you aren't signed up to received news notes from this particular online quilt shop. NAYY to any of these - the quilt shop, HGTV, Alex Anderson. Just hope this might help. Marlys in Indiana

-------------------------------------------------------------------- The e-mail is this:

Dear Quilting Friends,

This letter was on the forum I belong to for quilt shop owners. I have deleted the name of the lady who sent it originally, but it is a valid e-mail and I am passing it on to you. For those of you who know the value of Simply Quilts, I know you will want to take action. I hope you are not upset, but depending on how many newsletter list you subscribe to, you may get this letter many, many times.

"Alex Anderson was at my home this morning at a birthday party I held for a good friend. Everyone was asking her about Simply Quilts and if was it really canceled. She said that HGTV will not be picking up new shows and reruns will play through 06. She didn't have a clue with what was going on with DIY. This was not her decision (as some of the boards are speculating). Like us, she understands the value of this show to the quilting community.

I am surprised that HGTV would cancel such a popular show. HGTV must be completely unaware of the millions of dollars that are spent each year by quilters on fabrics and supplies. They must also be totally unaware of the tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands? - millions?) of quilters who watch Alex's show and stay tuned to other shows on HGTV.

I'll bet that HGTV executives never heard about the quilters response to the knitters sitting at the quilt frame in the Northern toilet paper commercial. I'll bet Northern never forgets it.

We need to contact HGTV and tell them how much we enjoy her show and that we want new shows. I know that many of the teachers/authors on this list have been on her show over the ten years she has been on HGTV. I would certainly like to have the opportunity to see new teachers on her show.

I went to the HGTV web site and this is the information there:

The corporate address is:

HGTV Director of Programming

9721 Sherrill Blvd. Knoxville, TN 37932

(865) 694-2700 phone (865) 531-1588 (fax) (865) 694-7879 consumer response line

the only contact listed is Emily Yarborough, Public Relations Manager.

Please contact HGTV and tell them that you want Alex back making new shows soon!!"

Well dear friends, it is up to us now. Let HGTV know how you feel about this travesty.

Merry Christmas to you all! Karen Summers A Stitch In Time Temple, Texas
