Hehehehe... Many years ago we had Marmalade, our original wandered-in-off-the-street moggy. When he was about six, we got Muffin, also known as Ghengis Kitten! That one was a one-cat Mongol horde! Marmalade spent the first month of Muffin's tenure under a chair, alternately growling and swearing, except at meal times. We started them off at opposite ends of the room, and after a week they would share a mat and swap dinners half way through... Took a while longer before they would share a cat nest or a lap, but they managed in the end.

Happy kitty rearing! Three weeks is VERY young, so someone is in for midnight feeding and all that sort of thing.

Please give Hodge a special ear rub from me and assure him he is still Lord and Master, and that his magnanimous acceptance of the newcomers will be appreciated.

Huh. Back when I was still able to have cats, we had an outdoor farm cat in to be spayed and she was (unknown to me) pregnant. The vet didn't give any indication that it was a problem and spayed her.

This was back in the 90's, maybe that makes a difference. *shrug*

here a vet will spay a pregnant cat while still in in it's first trimester but usually not after that - my vet did spay my cat when she returned from escaping off my balcony the first time she came on heat and returned not on heat 2 days later. She also told me that it would have been different if I had brought my cat in the last trimester as one cat owner once did - the vet refused and told them to com back 4 weeks after having the kittens.

Ooh, a black kitty. I'm quite partial as my QI is black except for a small white spot on his belly.

If Kiwi is anything like my QI, Charley, he may give Hodge a run for his money. Charley is half imp, I'm sure. However, he is an only-cat and didn't learn any cat manners from any cat oldsters. I got him from a shelter when he was only 8 weeks old and he was in quarantine due to being a stray. Perhaps Hodge can teach Kiwi some ettiquette. :-)

Hodge was in a sulk when we got back and wouldn't come out from his favourite hiding place, so had no idea he was no longer and only cat.

It was over an hour before they all met - Kiwi just stood with his mouth open at such a big cat, and Mia did the 'deformed devil-cat look'. Hodge looked at one, and then the other, then back to his sleeping/ hiding place under the bed settee in the conservatory.

They then spent a happy few minutes peeping at him under the edge - Kiwi fearless and Mia still very wary and sensible, but just like naughty children peeping through a peculiar neighbour's window, and then ambled off to do more exciting things.

Hodge will spend the night on his own in the conservatory as he usually does with his usual routine. I know he will get used to the idea soon (he did when their mother came to stay), its just a matter of time.

When we leftthey thought kittens would make their appearance fairly soon, hopefully within the next couple of days.

He is still hiding in his sleeping place under the bed settee in the conservatory. At the moment he is rendered speechless! He has had extra kitty treats though - cheese ones he loves

He said they would have done it at an earlier date, but now with kittens almost ready to be born it would involve a caesarian and then 'putting the kittens to sleep', and they felt they couldn't do that.

I discovered a grey bit under his chin! His coat isn't smooth and shiney like his black and white sister, but short and wooley like his father. Like a little mammoth!

Hopefully, they need to be taught some manners! Hodge has now reappeared following his shock encounter, and gone for a look at them. I think it is going to be a fun weekend.

Fussy eaters too - Kiwi will only eat kitten biscuits and baby rice, and Mia eats only tinned tuna and a few kitten biscuits, and the baby rice Kiwi leaves, so I think that needs sorting out. If he is a dry food only cat will have to make sure it's nutritious dry food, and will introduce Mia to a more varied diet. One thing, Hodge will always eat the leftovers!

So it sounds as if Mia is going to be a "permanent" guest after all? ;-) When can we expect pictures? (she says hopefully).

Sally, Both those Kitties are full of cuteness!! I never had a Newborn Kitty. Sugar was 6mo. old when we adopted her and Fiona was about 1 year when we adopted her. Gotta love'em.

Mia is officially here until about the second week in September Depending on how long she stays I will organise her spaying along with Kiwi's snip - we don't want any more kittens, do we! I will go and have a talk with our vet. They are only just over 3 months now, but those extra months can slip by too quickly

I chose Kiwi at 10 days when his eyes had just opened. Its a long time since we had a kitten. Our first was, and our second pair were Burmese mother and 3 month old son. We chose which kitten came with her - she was another teenage Mum who made a mistake. Father in that case was from another Burmese litter the breeder had, and hadn't had him fixed in time! We were going to have both the parents originally, but the children wanted a kitten instead of him.

Since then we have had single rescue cats but wanted to be a two cat household again. We wouldn't introduce an adult cat into Hodge's domain as he needs to remain boss cat. A kitten can become his friend.
