Re: New Quilt

Which picture is it? Did you post it yet? We cant tell you great it is if we cant see it :) I am a long way from paper piecing--seems like it more trouble than it worth for me. I just want to sew and not mess with paper :)

I love it Linda! Isn't Paperpiecing great? It opens up whole new design avenues. That is really smart and cheerful, hope you do well if you enter it :)

Oh my goodness, how did you do that? Short of driving yourself nuts? How small are each of those paper pieced blocks? I am totally in awe!

How great! Are you bringing it to Show n Tell? It's really so cute! I would enter it in a show in a heartbeat! Congratulations

Elena doing the full Happy Dance for a cute mini quilt.

Oh Pat, after all that work I just want to hear ooohs and ahhhhs. My parents are really good at that. I could show them old newspaper and they would gush! At 50 I still enjoy it. Yes I am taking it to Show n Tell. I love quilting, but really hate the size of quilts for MQing. I want to try the "divide and conquer" technique on the next large one. Anyone ever do that? Might solve the problem.

Elena, I have a happy dance too. I reserve it for life events, like the day my Daughter moved out and I got a sewing room! :-) The day I sold my business and the day my husband got a new job! Actually any day I wake up is cause for dancing. LOL

Your quilt is adorable. I also love the cat quilt. Is this a pattern that is available somewhere?

I did something like that last month and documented it on my web site (link below). I think the link to the "quilting in sections" page is in the second paragraph.

very nice. I think I might want to try something like that sometime. I've never done any paper piecing but have signed up for a class with Carol Doak next month.

Hi Julie, That is very similar to the Divide and Conquer technique. The thing I like about it is the the batting is put in as you go. It is much easier to quilt it on the machine. Another way is to do each section with the backing and put it together and make strips on the backing to cover the seams. Now all I have to do is figure out the fabrics and pattern. Linda

Funny you should notice that. It was quite accidental. I am definitely hooked on paper pieceing. Another plus is that I can complete an entire quilt in 3 days! A great in-between project while I ponder a "real quilt"

Each cat is done seperately and then pieced with the small squares. Some parts are paper pieced. It was a really fun project. Lots of oooohs and ahhhs. She has other projects on her site. I acutally called her to answer a question I had and she was so helpful.

Hello Carol, I am flattered that you like my first attempt. I like houses and trees too. In our earlier years we moved alot and I look at the houses and think of ALL those moves. As far as putting this squares together, is it true that you leave the paper on until the rows are put together. I had better luck putting the hearts and Sue squares together leaving the paper in place. You really made my day!

Thanks, Linda

Yes, Linda, you should leave the paper on, machine baste the beginning, matching point(s) and end and check for a good match before sewing with the smaller stitch. Don't machine baste the entire seam, just move to the next place to baste. The paper will support the fabric so there is no stretch and gives you a line to sew on. I was happy to make your day. For me, it is always such fun to see the projects that others make from my books. All the best, Carol Doak
