Re: Tumbling Blocks First Time

Like porcupines make love - very carefully. Polly

I've created the blocks by hand (first time doing that) and have the > layout. How do I join rows? Consulted Quilts, Quilts, Quilts, but > the instructions are vague? Any other resource would be helpful. > Thanks.

Just thought I'd say hello, as we have the same name! Sorry I can't really help. Polly was right, though!!! Just a thought - perhaps it would be better to join them in groups rather than rows? We've been having a discussion on here this week about this, but with ordinary blocks. I wonder if it wouldn't be a good way to go for these also? Anyone?

I did my Tumbling Blocks by English paper piecing, and put the blocks and the rows together in the same way--by hand. It took a long time but made a wonderful quilt! The worst thing was doing the edges to make them square. I thought of a dozen different ways but wound up piecing in the edges to make straight edges and good corners. Good luck on your quilt. I think I will never make another one of these, but it was well worth it.

I watched that "cut in half" method, maybe on Simply Quilts. Paid attention. Focused. I am so glad Butterfly didn't attempt to explain it while on drugs. It was hard to follow sober. Polly

Howdy! Sounds lovely. Gosh, I'd love to see a sample of your technique, Carolyn, or your blocks, or even just the fabric you used. ;-D

Since I am also making a Tumbling Blocks quilt, I would be interested in knowing how others have sewn the strips together. I think I know how to do it but I'm not sure. It will be awhile before I'm ready to sew the strips though. My Baby Log Cabin absolutely takes precedence over ANYTHING else. ;-) So any responses with directions will be saved in my special RCTQ file.

I have seen the one where you have no Y seams but that's not the way I'm doing mine.

I ain't using the rotary cutter

I ain't making no tumbling blocks whilst on them either.

"NEXT" is good for now.........and that's what I'm sticking to. Might get done--might not--no worries. Butterfly (can't say "no brain no pain" cause one of those complicated xrays I just went thru SHOWS sumpin up there...and it WAS working...so I was double thrilled for Alice W's DH cause I don't have MS either )
