I was so saddened by the event especially since I worked in the area as a teenager just out of high school. My daughter and son in law lost many friends there. A story to tell you: Some firemen went up in one of the buildings and proceeded to bring down one woman. She wanted to give up at a certain point and the men were trying to talk her into going down some more. She insisted she could not go any further and they stayed with her. These men called her their angel that day. The building collapsed around them and they were buried.along with her. God was with them and they were caught in a pocket with the good fortune of being rescued. Had they gone further, they would all have a perished as many of their colleagues did..The leader of the group was a captain and the son of one of the gang in our group of families growing up together. I saw him last as a little boy. You all might have seen this story on television. Anyhow I made a graphic of the event and eventually a quilt. The quilt and a story behind it (which think you'll find interesting) can be seen on my website under the heading of "The United We Stand" quilt. God Bless America!!!!!!!!!

Rita,

Thank you for reminding us about your quilt (and the story behind it). I remember it - it had an impact on me then, and seeing it again today, I got the same feeling. The quilt conveys a strong message, and I thank you for portraying it so beautifully.
