Sewing Machine Inventory

I have "Command Central" set up in my sewing room. As I face my Designer1, the 6440 is to my right on one of the cabinet's roll out "L"s, behind me is the Singer in its own cabinet and my ironing station. After sliding onto my "twirly chair" I roll out the other "L" cabinet from under my big Koala unit, raise the serger on my left and I am ready to rock & roll. While the D1 is embroidering I'm sewing on the 6440 or Singer and can spin to the serger if called for. I can not only have two machines sewing at one time, I can do two different projects at one time......Tell your hubby; we are women, we can multi task ;) LOL

Don't sell that machine, you NEED a spare for "just incases" even if you don't use both at the same time. How many times have you read in RCTQ that some poor, dear sewist has gone into deep depression and quivering for chocolate therapy because the one and only machine went toes up in the middle of a project and it's in the shop. Or worse, it goes toes up at 11pm on a Saturday night and you can't even GET it to the shop until Monday... or later......the horrors!! Don't let this happen to you!!

A Singer 99K! It's wonderful! I also have a White treadle that works very well, and use it occasionally. (Can you tell I like the oldies?!?)

I have two machines I sew on, and okay, I won't count my collectors. BG In the house I use my Bernina 810, and travelling I use my Jenome Gem Gold. Love 'em both totally!

An Elna 6003 (Quilter's Dream model) is my main machine. I also have a Singer 401 for a backup and an Elna serger (used for garments, not for quilting)

OUCH! Well... at least you have an excuse for not doing any dishes or cooking for the next few days!

Welcome to the group!

I also have a couple of Vikings.... a #1 (not a #1+) and a Rose, which I got for the embroider capability but seldom use the embroidery module on it. And yes, I have had 2 machines set up,side by side at a retreat and had both going at once. The Rose doing embroidery while I was sewing on my old Viking 6460 (Long story but wish I had that machine back it was a real workhorse. sigh) I also have a Singer 66 model in a table that DH picked up for me at Goodwill, but haven't really used it yet. And my Tin Lizzie 18 for quilting which still needs to be set up. sigh. The weather has not been conducive to getting the frame polyurethaned or for me to do the work needed to finish clearing the space for it. There are also the Huskylock and White Speedylock sergers that see use.

Most of them!

I have 3 non-working machines. The others all get used regularly, except one odd one...

For a large portion of my professional work: Husqvarna Lily 500 Bernina 1150MDA serger Brother 1034D serger

I sometimes have these two set up for different processes or colours on the same project, especially if there's a lot of swapping about to do.

Lily is in the shop for her regular service at the moment, so I have the Bernina 1005 up on the bench.

For sewing away from home (at mum's, on holiday, etc...) I usually take the Elna Lotus TSP or the Featherweight.

I regularly take a whole bunch of machines into school for sewing lessons. These include:

Featherweight Elna Lotus TSP Elna Lotus ZZ Viscount 2000 Bernina 1005 Singer 360 New Home (big ole thing, but fantastic) Singer 99K

The 3 hand cranks and the main treadle do get used occasionally (I had the 28K on the bench the other day to mend James's school bag!), and I have another Irish built 15 clone that is SuPER FAST so gets dragged out for long boring curtain seams as it goes FAAAST but doesn't like going slow, so the kids don't like it so much!

The only real collector's item I have is the Adria Saxonia, which takes an obsolete needle type. But it does work! The last two machines

The last two are awaiting parts for a mend, so are in long-term storage as parts may not be readily available.

Since my Janome 4800 QC is in for a check up I am sewing on my NewHome (janome) MC 6000, 30 years old and still a sewing workhorse, when I sew with her I wonder why I replaced her.... Mauvice in central Wi.

I mostly use my Viking Designer I in the table. My backup is a Viking #1. I take the featherweight on retreats. I love them all.

  • * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I have only used my Sapphire 850 since my DH bought it for me before summer. I am still learning the different things about it. I'm getting ready to learn how to use a joining foot today. Wish me luck!

I do have a Singer Scholastic for backup purposes or whatnot.

I bought an old White machine in a cabinet for $5 and promptly gave it to my eight year old son. He does occasionally sew with it. Just this Christmas he made a paper pieced ornament that he has proudly (and rightly so) attached to his door with thumbtacks. I think it needs to go in for repair/cleanup....doesn't like to reverse. (hey, what do ya want for five bucks! lol)

I also purchased a old singer machine for alot more money and it needs to go into the shop. Bobbin problems! Don't know if it's worth it to take it into a shop. I bought this for my second daughter to learn on....until I get it fixed, it's sitting at the bottom of her closet!

I used to have a Pfaff and like an idiot I gave it away.

I do all my sewing on a Viking #1+. I thought I would use it for embroidery, but that hasn't happened! My quilting is done on an APQS Millennium.

After a quick scan of the responses I think I am in the minority as a Kenmore fan. I have a computerized Kenmore Elite with all the bells and whistles which I love for MQ. And a more basic mechanical 12 stitch Kenmore that is great for piecing. Which was an upgrade from the machine that I inherited from my mother. I guess that last one dates from the 50's - it went forwards and backwards and no zigzag. And it had this humungous contraption to attach for buttonholes! Haven't used it in a while but I bet it would hum along just fine with a dust off and an oil job.

You may be in the minority, but you're not alone! I have a Kenmore computerized (not sure what the "name" is - it's the model, 'bout 10 years old? Whatever .. it was top'o'the line when new) SM ... and if I get another one, it'll more than likely be another Kenmore (if the quality is still just as great!).

Someone told me ages ago that my baby was built by Janome ... and from what I've heard, she sure does act like one! A work-horse that just roots on creativity! :)

My other machines: another Kenmore (older and mechanical), a Brother (about

2 years old), and a White Rotary that although it's really a "collectible" I *do* use it occasionally!

Yay for Kenmores! (NAYY)!!

Hugs!!

Babylock Ellageo, almost always left set up for embroidery, but sews beautifully also. Until a couple of weeks ago used the Viking Designer 1 for all sewing, but it's been retired for the Babylock Quest. Unfortunately, I just haven't had time to get much done on that one, but I think I'll really like it. Gen
