I agree with Pati. A skinny eighth is 4.5" by width of fabric (WoF.) A fat eighth (F8) causes confusion, even though it is normally half of a fat quarter (FQ.) FQ = 18" by 22" (or half WoF). Everyone knows that. The mix up comes in when some people cut a F8 = 18" by 11" and some cut F8 = 9" by 22" ... quite a difference! BTW, I prefer the former, as it is a bit chunkier. Your preference may vary. (YPMV? ... a new acronym?)

So few fabrics are 44 wide now-a-days (more like 40 wide of useable fabric) that a fat eighth would be more like 18X10 or 9X20- not much difference either way you cut it???

Yeah, that is why I said "or half width of fabric. Thanks for emphasizing that point. PAT

My preference is not to mess with fat 8ths at all -just get a yard or 2 and be done with it. Roberta in D
