Shopping for a quilting book?

I prefer to look through the projects in the book before I buy, much like feeling a fabric before buying it. I just can't part with my money unless I feel I am going to get my money's worth. Debra in VA See my quilts at:

LQS or real bookshops. I'd never buy online/mail-order unless there was no alternative, I'd seen a physical copy of the book before, and I really, really wanted it.

I work in a second-hand bookshop. We had one bunch of quilting books come through which included some good stuff I'd have been tempted to buy for myself. Except that handling them set me off in paroxysms of sneezing. I guess the previous owner's whole house must have been saturated in some kind of floral fragrance I was allergic to. A web site isn't going to warn you about that.

I'm another book fan too and have lots and lots of them on my shelves....it's been interesting to think how my choices have been changing over the years. First it was *anything* I could find at a second hand book store. Then it was a challenge to find *older* books (anyone read "Old Patchwork quilts and the Women who made them" by Ruth Finley? ) Now I buy books for eye candy (ie the wonderful book on the Journal Quilt project) and design inspiration (Sandra Meech's books).

Tee, hee hee hee!! I've got all the Joann's books already -- well, all the ones I want. And the little quilt shop doesn't have any books that I wanted either. Ho hum. . . .
