Singer 210K

The tiny hospital where I work has a 1957 model Singer 201K tucked away collecting dust. We're trying to clean out the old stuff to store some new stuff and they asked if I wanted to buy it. I said I could be interested. I need you experts on old machines to give me advice on what I should pay for it cause I can kinda give them what I think is a fair price. Any comments about this machine would be welcome also. The cabinet is in fair shape and the attachment/acessories are in what looki like the original boxes. Donna inNWONtario

It definately runs. I tried it out one night shift. The wiring isn't brittle. but alas it has no stool. We used to use it to repair the linen back when we had our own laundry. (this was a 8 bed hospital back then) Donna inNWONtario

I honestly believe if they took it to an appraiser they would discover it is worth much more as a antique. So if you could buy it at $50. you'd be very lucky.

Donna: The price suggestions here seem okay to me. I'd add that you might make a small wall hanging, USING that very machine, to brighten some corner of the Hospital.

Donna,

This machine is certainly not old enough to be an antique so the amount you are thinking of ($50) is fairly generous. Machines like this one with the cabinets and the stools are fairly common in this area at the local garage sales and estate sales and quite often don't even sell. For instance, I got a beautiful Singer 503 in a huge desk type sewing cabinet with the chair and all the attachments, and all the stuff in the desk for $35. The people at the estate sale were more than happy to have it off their hands.

This is just my opinion, but I have quite a collection of machines and am fairly familiar with the prices here in Western New York.

Everything depends upon condition, condition, condition :)

How is the finish? The bed decals? The wiring?

I paid $25 for one in excellent condition in a cabinet a few months ago.
