SM is Sick-- Boo Hoo

I am making a quilt for a silent auction to be held in March (I am chairman of the event). It is Carol Doak's pink ribbon quilt done in blue for Prevention of Child Abuse. It is all put together and I started stippling it the other night. finished 4 blocks and BAM sewing machine froze and needle was in the down position. Turned off machine figuring that would reset everything-- no, machine would not turn on properly. Finally managed to get the needle up (was really stiff) and get the quilt off the machine. Turned it on and this time no problem with it starting up. Figured sensor didnot like starting up with the quilt on it. Stipple about 10 stitches and BAM froze again. Took it to the SM doctor after work yesterday. She worked with it and of course it is like going to the car mechanic worked fine. She thought it might be my darning foot was defective but since I had stripped the machine down to the bear minium since this is another extension of the place that lost my pedal during the summer, she could not look at the foot. Suggested I take it home and stipple footless and see what happens. Worked great for

2 blocks and then BAM died again. Now I have to go back so it can go for repairs. Looks like I will be unable to quilt over the holiday weekend (Boo HOO). Will let you know the results tomorrow. Not sure I can get over their today as my best friend in the world will be coming over after work today on her way back up to Central California.

That's one reason I bought a Singer 401 when I found one at a garage sale for $7 :)

I am in complete sympathy. My sewing machine is in the shop waiting for an estimate to see whether or not I can afford to have it fixed.

What a bummer! Hope it is fixed soon.

Anyone got a machine you can borrow for a while? It's nice to have one for back up :)

Heaven, yes! Soem of us are really greedy and even have more than one serger! ;)

Tell him a nice gently pre-loved basic metal one as a back-up and cover for the main one during servicing, like a courtesy car, is essential...

Thanks for the idea. I only have the face plate that came with the machine. Not sure if I ever mentioned it, but I HATE to sew. I will only quilt or do the machine embroidery. I know, strange, but then that is why I have an e-mail addy that has my name as daffymom.

Never thought there was a reason for me to buy any other face plates. machine is at the docs now, will see what they say when they call and give me the estimate.
