Bernina Artista 200E problem

I have a 2 year old Artista and whenever I use the embroider I get the thread break / bobbin out of thread warning and the machine stops. This happens every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. When I push the start button it again runs a short time then stops again. I have had this checked by the tech. at the shop where I bought the machine and he replaced the sensor but the problem still exists. The bobbin area is clean with no loose threads or lint. Is this a common Bernina problem? Does anyone have a fix. This has happened since the machine was new. Thank you John

What do you use for the following?

Bobbin thread Upper thread Needles

I have a 180, but my friend is the proud new owner of a gently used 200. We had a heck of a problem with the upper thread breaking and also the bottom thread tension in her machine. We were using a poly thread in the upper and a "bobbin thread" in the bottom. Changed the bobbin thread to match the upper and voila...no more problems. I thought the bobbin thread looked much heavier than the upper poly thread.

Now, I must say she had no problems with the same bobbin thread with a heavier cotton upper thread. I personally try to use lingerie thread in the bobbin as much as possible and have never have a problem.

You also might want to try either a larger or a smaller needle. Maybe a different brand needle.

Thanks for the info . I am not having any problem with the thread breaking, just the sensor saying it's broken or the bobbin is empty.

I would still look at the threads....it could be a tension problem. Personally I turned off my sensor. I found it mostly annoying as it would tell me the thread had run out much too early, there was still lots left on the bobbin. Besides, I can HEAR when it runs out, as it sounds differently.

I prefer to babysit my machine when I'm doing embroidery. It gives me a chance to catch up on my reading.

Yes, I know the price of the sensor was included in the price of the machine, but just cause it's there, doesn't mean it is useful.

My 200E will do that if I've forgotten to close the door to the bobbin area. HTH

Hi! I, too, own a 200E, and have had the same problems as you. I have turned off the sensor. It took a while to get used to not having a warning when the bobbin thread was low, but it did get rid of the problem.

Otherwise we just have to be careful about the combination of threads we use.

Good luck!

Yes I had that problem and there were two reasons why:

1) My needle was in backwards.. duh! 2) My bobin thread was not the best brand to use in bernina- I have found that VLI Basting and Bobbin Thread works the best in my can't tell you why that would be, it just works great for me.

Also- is the thread tension too tight? is the needle head too small?

I don't know if this is a common problem but I have a new Artista 630E and it is doing the exact same thing. Haven't solved the problem yet.

This problem sounds similar to one being discussed in a Janome group a day or three ago and it was suggested that there was a software upgrade to fix the problem on the manufacturer's site, so I'd suggest checking the Bernina site for similar.

Sorry, that's all I can suggest and h> l>

It sounds like you need to have this settings adjusted. I also have a 185 and my bobbin only beeps when it is almost out of thread. Depending on what I'm embroidering I may have enough notice to finish a letter but certainly not 1/3 of the bobbin left. If your dealer really can't/doesn't know how to make this adjustment you can always disable the warning in your options so you do not have to leave the door open.

As for being out of thread, the machine does make a noticeably different sound when it does run out. I usually prefer to babysit my embroidery designs or at least be in the next room and I can hear the difference in sound of the machine when it runs out of thread if I have chosen to turn off the bobbin notice feature.

Had the same issue- a quick stop to the dealer to get the machine re-calibrated fixed the problem for me. Sometimes the timing gets a bit wonkie and it needs to be adjusted. quick fix.
