Snowed in!!

Snowed in!!

There's a snow emergency here in central New York! Everything is closed, inc. my workplace which has only closed for 3 times in the 25 years I've worked there! We got over a foot of snow overnight and the weather service predicts upwards of 30" by the time this baby is done, with up to 3" of snow falling per hour today. Winds are predicted to get to 15 to 20 MPH with gusts up to 35 MPH! We've bot over a foot of snow in the driveway. The road looks like it was plowed but it's hard to tell LOL

We have power, a backup generator, three tons of wood pellets (for heat), candles, batteries, food, etc. so we're all set.

To keep this on topic, I'll be spending the day sewing and quiltign! Yippee!!

-Irene (in cold, snowy, and white central NY)

Monday, I played golf in short sleeves. We had lots of rain yesterday, so it is too wet to play today. Enjoy your day off!

Here in central Maine, it has been snowing for about 4 hours. 1.5" of it on the ground. Bring it on as we too are set with food, water, generator, etc.

All the surrounding schools were closed today with the exception of ours. 30 minutes after I sent my kid to school on the bus, we received a call saying they will be sending the kids home at 11:30 after having been fed lunch. So with that, they don't have to make up the day later on.

Forecasted amounts range between 12-18" with one saying upwards of

24". Our area which depends on snowmobiling as a tourist destination is hoping for the later amount. The snow has been quite scarce in the area for the past 2 years. I've seen a few more smiles on the many people the past few days in anticipation of snow.

So bring it on!!!

I saw your snow on the news last night. Quite impressive!!! And then we hear that it is our turn next!! (Montreal being a little east of you folks). And so it was no surprise when the storm made it to town this morning....so far the roads are still working. And even if not I live close to the metro (subway) so I have no excuses for not getting to work ...too bad, I have lots of quilting that is begging to be done . Allison

Howdy!

Congrats on your snow, Marilyn.

We're getting snow "flurries" right now, not much to worry about, so far, the ground is still fairly warm after only 2 days of "cold" temps (cold for us being somewhere in the 30s ) that the flakes disappear before they hit the grass.

South Texas doesn't get much snow (only once in the 16 yrs I lived there and it was devastating for the citrus growers), which is why all the Winter Texans are happy to leave the frozen North, going south to "Head for the Border!"

The brushed cotton quilt on the sofa is perfect for cuddling in this weather, with a small quilt to Finish while listening to a Dick Francis story on the cd player, a log crackling in the fireplace. This is my kind of "snowed in." ;-D We had a few inches of snow 3 yrs. ago on Valentine's Day; it was gone the next day. I love our Texas winters. ;-D

Ragmop/Sandy--originally from the frozen north, happy to be here today (Pat: I'm keeping the chocolate!)

i just dont get why you northeners have such inclination to out do each other in the snow dept. whos got more inches, i guess size does count but its snow for crying out loud. whos got lower temps, who cares, its snow for crying out loud. how long you gotta shovel to get out, big deal, its snow for crying out loud. i for one dont 'do' snow. :)) its too freak'n cold for me. enjoying summer in the south pacific with temps today around 743F and a light breeze off the pacific ocean. :) snorfle jeanne

In spite of the ice storm today we had school. By the time I got out my car doors were frozen shut. Two of us managed to pull open a back door. Then a young, spry coworker jumped from the back seat, over the stick shift and pushed the front door open. Then it took me a half hour to defrost and scrape the ice so I could see to drive. The suburban cowboys in their giant suvs don't realize that ice is not snow ant that that 4 wheel drives skids pretty well. Passed 2 overturned SUVs and one that slid into someone's fence.

Here in southern MN, we've had a fair amount of snow. We actually have more snow here than in northern MN. They cancelled the John Beargrease sled dog marathon in the Duluth area because of lack of snow. More about the John Beargrease at .

Marilyn, where 'bouts are you? We got about 8" plus an inch of ice on top. I'm down in Brunswick. ME-Judy

P.S. Cold vs. Heat - You can always put ON more layers, BUT there is a limit to how much you can take off

roflmao, when i read u'r reply i said "did i type that?" went and checked in my 'sent' box and i did indeedy, lol. nice catch. its not quite that hot in summer and yes we do get colder in winter but it never ever ever snows here in auckland. cant recall it ever reaching 32F here in my 30yrs either. we're at sea level, well on either side of the dozen or so dead (i hope) volcano cones the city is built around, sitting on an isthmus between two natural harbours. just too much sea water so close to get snow here in town. that said, with the worlds weather doing such extremes as its been doing the past few yrs would not surprise me if it snowed up in the foothills sometime. that is where the westerly rains that come in dump before they reach town. so if it snows out over the pacific at all....i guess we just never know, eh. thanks for todays morning chuckle. :)) cheers, jeanne

when it gets too hot is when you toddle on down to the beach for a wee dip in the harbour. cools ya off right nicely, it does. :)) cheers, jeanne
