Sorta OT Pattern Offer

FIRST - our old houses sold this weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!! Hip, hip, hooray and a Merry Christmas to us!

Now to the part you really wanted to know.......

I tried to have a yard sale with all the leftover stuff at the old houses. DD got deathly ill midway through the yard sale and we had to shut down.

Now all, ALL of that stuff is STILL in the garage of one of the old houses. I have until Dec. 1 to get rid of it or it gets demolished with the house.

I'm sorry, but my DH says I have "depression era" mentality. I can't STAND to see anything go to waste and there was a LOT of good stuff in there!

I have posted a notice to my local Freecycle group that I will open the garage for one day, and one day only with a "first come first gets it" approach.

But here's the deal............ most of the old garment fabric that was in there, I DID manage to sell to one lady during the few hours of the actual "yard sale". But there was a little bit of misc. fabric left - NOT QUILTING QUALITY FABRIC !!! AND, there is a large plastic Rubbermaid tub that is FULL of garment patterns.

Most of these patterns are for women, mid size, anywhere from size 10 to 16. Some mens and some childrens patterns and a few misc. craft patterns.

If there is ANY RCTQ'er on this group who has any interest in any of these, I would be willing to send them to you FIRST as opposed to wait for Freecyclers to maybe/maybe not show up and rifle through them.

Please email me off list if you have an interest so I can run over to the old house and pull them out and box them before I open the garage up to the Freecycle people ???????

If not, never fear, I will let the Freecyclers rifle, then give Purple Heart a chance and then drive back out to Katy and not look back when the backhoe comes to demolish the house and the remaining contents of the garage. I'll try not to shudder or think of the waste that was left.............................

Hugs, Tina

Howdy!

Congrats, Tina and family! Now you can really enjoy your new home, knowing the old one is "case closed."

Goodwill Industries will send a truck to pick up the leftovers, as will the Leukemia and Kidney Foundation(s). I always call Mission Arlington for donations of all sizes (I just don't want to mess w/ any more garage sales of my own ), clothes, toys, furniture, electronics, whatever is still usable; perhaps you have a local mission that will do the same. You recycle, someone else gets lucky. (I see Purple Hearts doesn't pick up general items.)

Good luck! It's okay to let things go. ;-)

Lissa, I did think about you first - but these aren't necessarily all current or modern patterns and didn't know if that would appeal to you.

You, of course are welcome to them. The pajama patterns for kids/hubby/etc. you probably already have, but I doubt you have all these womens patterns!

Sheesh!! I *do* retro and such..can always tweak them to fit my wants/need..c'mon Sprite - I've been sewing clothing since I was Thomas' age!! lol

Plus, you never know when the "retro" patterns can be used for last minute costume ideas :-)

I am sorting through boxes, still trying to get things either put away or shipped away.

I started going through this huge box of patterns.

It was actually kind of funny. I think Lissa was a little upset, that me knowing that she sews her own clothes, I didn't first think to send them to her. As I explained to her, I didn't know that she would really be interested in these since they weren't really "modern" day styles. I told her a lot of these were really old patterns.....

Here's the interesting part - I think some of these patterns are actually ANTIQUES! There are patterns in here that are dated Copyright

1948 ! 1951, 1961 There are patterns for men's and men's smoking jackets! There are patterns for women's two-piece bathings suits that I can't picture anyone wearing today, even as a "retro" style! LOL Some of the patterns are downright hysterical! Like the pattern for men's Bermuda shorts and the picture shows a man wearing these Bermuda shorts, with knee high nylon socks and his loafers!

There are patterns from the Hollywood Pattern Company and Advance, neither of which I had ever heard of. Then of course there are patterns from Vogue, Simplicity, McCall and Butterick dated all the way back to 1937!

I just had to share this with you guys because I thought it was so interesting as well as shocking.

Now I'm tempted to do some internet searching to see what they are worth.

When I cleaned out the box with my grandmother's remaining cookbooks in it on Monday, I discovered a 1938 copy of "How to Get the Most Out of Your Sunbeam Mixmaster" and found out that is worth $48.00! LOL

Lissa, this is turning out to be a pretty big box. Are you still suuurrrrrrre you want all these patterns? LOL

Tina, check e-bay and the vintage clothing sites. Those old dress patterns are selling for more than you'd think!!! Patterns from the

50's are quite desirable, and Advance is one of the names to look for.

I thought this too when I wrote the post. "I bet there are some women on this group that might have bought some of these patterns, sewn them, and actually worn them. I better be careful how I word this post!"

But think about this - just like any REAL "antiques" and just like some of these patterns that date back to the 1930's and 40's - they INCREASE in VALUE!

and so do YOU!

Hey Tina, I think you have a bright future in politics! You sidestepped that sticky issue quite well! LOL! KJ

Hey, I was born in 64 and I'm certainly not ready to think of myself as an "antique" yet either.....of course, if you were to ask my kids opinions........

I learned my politics at a very young age.....shortly after asking my mother, "Mom, did they have peanut butter when YOU were a little girl?"

Ok, so my mother was born in 42 - she gave me credit for being young and innocent but I still don't think she found any humor in the question. It's one of those things she likes to tell when there are guests around! You know, pay your children back through shame?
