Speed manager

I ordered a speed manager for my Brother 1500S last friday and am waiting for Polly's famous UPS guy to deliver it this afternoon.

Once I get it connected to my SM I can start practicing my MQ with no more tired hands. All I have to do now is push a button and move the SM on the frame instead of trying to move the SM and trying to control the speed at the same time with a hand speed control. Should get better, even stitches.

Dinner is in the crock pot and I'm ready to play.

I have a button on my Janome 6600 that you can push to make it go without using the foot pedal and I've never used it. I thought that I wouldn't like not having the control to slow down and speed up when *I* want to do so. Also, people tend to move the fabric faster on curves and slow down going into points or changing directions. I'm still very weak on curves and points because of this natural tendency. I'm curious how this works out for you..... I may start using 'The Button' if you have good luck with your new gadget!

Hey Leslie:

I have my Brother 1500S on the Hinterberg Machine Quilting Frame. It can do 1500 stitches per munute. With hand speed controls I can't keep up a constant speed so my sts are not quite with way I want them. It's like speed up, slow down, speed up. etc.

With the speed manager I can dial down the speed to about 600 sts per minute and hopefully glide over the quilt sandwich with ease.

Hey Polly remember when I was trying to play with the SM at the quilt show. Was doing fine till that woman came over and turned the speed manager up. Top speed is not my goal. Did learn how to do feathers though. (giggle).

Seriously Leslie try the button and any speed controls on my SM. Make a practice sandwich and let 'er fly. Don't say I didn't warn you, it can become addicting.

Our cute UPS guy just came by. Mercy! Yogi wants to go ride in the big brown truck so bad. The fabrics that I ordered late Sunday arrived today. I had not realized that Thousands of Bolts was in Ohio; not really sure how they managed to get out. Kate had sent us pictures of Ohio's snow and we had never ever seen anything like it. So. Therefore, since their fabrics are mostly under $ 4 yd, we were curious about them. The score: shipping, fast; packing, fine; fabrics, very nice. All the fabrics arrived with neat little labels telling me who/what they are. I like that. I didn't expect that the fabrics would have the same fondle as those in a $10 - $ 20 yard category but I am pleased with all of them. Let us know, Kate, how the speed manager works out. I'd never realized that you could set the speed to whatever is comfortable. We will want all the details. Polly

I was there!! We got to Ohio on Wednesday just after an ice storm. Power companies were still trying to get everyone back on line. By Friday the snow was starting. Stayed in the house for two days. Our county was at level 3. You got a ticket or arrested if you were on the roads. Unfortunately we were there for a funeral which had to be delayed a day. Even then the Pastor couldn't reach us. Not a good time. Lost my oldest brother. Best thing was that two other brothers and nieces and nephews were able to present a wonderful celebration of life service. Makes me appreciate Florida.

Yup, my UPS guy came about 4:30. I didn't hear the truck pull up but I heard someone singing. What in the world???? I go to the door and that cute little butt was disappearing into the truck. I found my speed manager on my lawn chair beside the door.

i've been playing all evening. I have my Hinterberg machine quilting frame set up with the Brother SM on it. I disconnected the foot control and replaced it with the speed manager. I attached the button to the handles on the frame, turned down the speed dial so I could start of slowly. As I moved the SM across the frame I was able to turn the speed dial with just my thumb. I was off and running. Been practicing on a muslin sandwich using red thread on top and blue in the bobbin. Wanted to check the tension. Ended up doing loopy loops, stars, wrote my name several times in script, then tried to follow a stencil. Don't think I will try any stencil work till I get used to my new toy. I like free motion the best. I hope to get aquainted real well this coming week. I want to start doing feathers. Am going to master them or else. Tried to do leaves and vines. Came out pretty well but I still need a couple hundred hours of MQ practice before I can become somewhat proficient with my toys.

So Polly what is the web site for the Thousands of Bolts. We all would like to take a peek. (giggle)

. Because their prices are so low, I was concerned that the fabric might be shabby but it is not. For the Poiple People here, if anyone needs a purple that is simply, madly pure purple, the one by Benartex named Bistro is a beauty. When looking around to compare pricing I found that there is also one very similar that has sort of maroon in it so you'd have to be careful in choosing the right one. Humming 'Deep Purple', back to my stitching, Polly

Dear Anna Belle, You and your family have my condolences. It is heart warming to read that the family was able to gather to commemorate your brother's life, in spite of nature's interference. Hugs, Pat in Virginia
