Thread Art sorta ot

I ran across this link on a blog I read. It's recreations master paintings using spools of thread! Very, very cool.

Wow, pretty amazing! I did a little research about the artist and found her web page. The Trekkies in this group will really enjoy some of her work. She's funded by Coats & Clark which clears up some of my wonderings ;)

That's absolutely mind-boggling! I'd go absolutely crazy if surrounded by boxes and boxes of thread and had to come up with a design, not to mention trying to duplicate an artist's work with all that shading! (you'd find me in an asylum fer sure!! ME-Judy

Maybe I'm feeling cranky this morning (and so I apologize in advance) but, other than the cute gimmick of using spools of thread and "viewing" the work through a lens, seems to me that she has done nothing more than pixillate a painting. Just like anyone can do to make a cross stitch pattern or those mosaic photos made up of lots of little pictures. Heck, I could do it too and make a quilt out of a bazillion little squares but I don't think it would be an interesting enough project.

I think many many artists are looking for a gimmick to translate their talant into income. She just found one. Good for her.

I have to admit I will be more impressed if she does something with it other than duplicate craft store kits on a grand scale.

Thing is, she *did* it.

She came up w/ the idea, worked it, got C&C's sponsorship, got the display area booked and the exhibit set up. Like that sign in many craft & quilt shops: "Sure you COULD do it, but will you?" ;-D

Yup, she *did* do a very good job on all of that!!

I just don't think it should count as "art". Which can lead into a whole other discussion . So I'll just leave it at "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
