Thread compatability

I want to use Bottom Line (fine polyester thread) in the bobbin and rayon t= hread on top to quilt a nap-sized hug quilt for a church member. We've al= l heard how poly thread can 'saw thru' cotton thread/fabric... most quilte= rs have opinions on the subject. ;-) And rayon thread is quite fragile c= ompared to cotton thread. Am I asking for trouble if I use the rayon/poly= combination for the quilting? The fabrics are all batiks, so fairly stou= t (if that makes any difference) with Warm & White for the batting.

Next- the sachings are three 1 in. finished strips with 9 patches for the c= ornerstones. I'd really like to quilt feathers in the sachings but I'm th= inking the feathers wouldn't be very effective in such a narrow space with = seams and the two different fabrics. Maybe I want someone to talk me out = of the idea??? LOL

I'll be pin basting while I await your opinions.

TIA

Talk you out of the idea? Mercy, no. Your plan sounds gorgeous. Poly thread is Not the stout fishing line of yore; it is soft and lovely. It will do fine. With the one I'm quilting just now, I had to do some testing to get the 'just right' needle and also realized that my bobbin case had jiggled loose. Wonder why I didn't think of that sooner? Parts of me jiggle loose all the time. Polly

I've used poly and rayon threads before, and I've had good results. And on my couch quilt, too, so it gets washed and dried because of the cat hair it gets on it.

I don't know, maybe the quilts will all fall apart in a hundred years, but it's held up well so far.
