until Christmas - slightly OT

I went out to an early dinner with friends of mine, 2 couples who have been married forever, and ran this little scenario by them this evening. Surprisingly the two men were the first to pipe up. "Down right mean, serious control issues and a bully". There were a few other expletives I'll edit. Apparently they think along the same lines as Gen's DH. If he had "wrapped it in disguise", as one of these guys did to his DW's sewing machine last Christmas by putting it in a big table saw box and her diamond earrings in a Dremel box and had her convinced he really wanted to teach her to work in the shop with him because he got so lonely out there all by himself....*snort*....we were all howling about that! But this deal is like putting a meal in front of very hungry person and saying, "you can't eat that, neener, neener, neener." So to sum it up we all agreed that it sucks and is inexcusably mean spirited.

Aw he's just funning with you (I hope) - it's a Christmas present - not a two week before Christmas gift. :-)) I'd gladly wait. Just knowing how sweet he was to buy it for you is very nice. You can plan all kinds of projects just for that machine in the meantime. Lucky girl.

My loved ones are more secretive, so no, this situation hasn't happened. IMO you should tell him that you plan to spend the 1st day after opening the box doing nothing but playing with your new machine. That's part of the gift, right? Which means nobody will be eating Christmas dinner, unless he plans to cook. Roberta in D

Tell me, why does a piece of wrapping paper around a gift mean so much? Other than the fact that she KNOWS what the gift is and can't wait to use it.......if it was wrapped and under the tree would it have been easier to wait for? I'm assuming she ASKED for this particular machine and knew she more than likely would be getting it? Ever since I was 'hurt' I had the family write lists of Wants and Needs and put it on the fridge. I couldn't go shopping whatsoever so I had to rely on other members of the family to do so for me......they KNEW what they were getting and I wasn't 'hassled' for not giving it early and they were KIDS. Only thing that was different was the had to WAIT until Christmas before they go to use/have it/them.

Its called AANNNNTTTIIIICCCCIPPPPAAAATTTIIOOOONNNNNN

Why doesn't she ask him to set it under the tree...might make waiting a bit easier......

Not defending either--it's just the way things happened for me.

Butterfly (Do you have a spot READY" for it...first project ready to get started on? I'd be dancing all over the room KNOWING I *WAS* getting the machine I wanted. Maybe it's because I grew up ALWAYS having to share my things.that having something that was just MINE and just for ME that makes it so special)

The manual would take about 20 minutes to read...and it's not written very well! It has a lot of pictures and numbers; maybe so it can be understood in any language? It also has a "quick reference" guide and a "correction" page.

I thought most of you were joking, but they are getting worse and worse as I read. Nobody heard of patience? My dad would NEVER let us open a present before the day it was intended for, and I think it is a great idea!
