Update from Spain

Hello everyone

I have not been posting much lately. Been busy. Barely time to stop and smell the flowers, and trust me, after two weeks plus of non-stop rain, three days of sunshaine will make the spring flowers come out en masse.

Things are happening here in Spain. I am working even more hours now than before (guess the big shots figured that 80 hour weeks are no enough!) so now I am also doing the odd weekend here and there.

We finally have a phone at home (and adsl!). Took the phone company 6 months to install. But now, finally, 6 months and many nasty phone calls and letters later, they have FINALLY put us back in the 20th century.

We are still working hard to get the house in shape. So many things still to do! We put up the curtains in the living/Dining room this past weekend (not bad after living there for 6 months!) and the large one ovewr the living room window went and fell down again yesterday afternoon (pulled the plug clear out of the wall - hint - use a larger plug!!!!). We are looking at lamps and pictures to put up; bare light bulbs do lose their charm after a while! We have also been wanting to get a start on the garden but with two solid weeks of non-stop rain we have to wait a bit for the ground to lose some of its sogginess; if we get the bulldozer in now to dig the hole for the swimming pool, he just might have to stay and live with us forever! Things have been dry now for a couple of days so hopefully we can get something done this weekend.

My mom is doing GREAT!!! She has finished 6 cycles of chemo and we went in to see the onclologist yesterday for a half-way up-date/ checkup. The tumors in her liver have shrunk considerably and the other lymphglands in the abdomen are also greatly reduced. THere is no evidence of tumor in the chest or the pelvic area. And mom has tolereated the chemo so well! Few or no side effects. She claims hair loss but I can't see it. So things are definitely more positive than they were 3 months ago. She will now undergo another 6 cycles and then they will re-evaluate surgery to remove whatever remains. So HAPPY!!!!!

On the medical note, my DH is looking at surgery of the neck to correct a cervial herniated disc that is giving him a hard time. Doon't know when yet, but we're looking at early June or so, I think.

And yes, I have managed to polay with a threaded needle now and then. Usually in the wee hours of the morning when insomnia hits. I have managed to finish a few things that I needed to get done. A quilt/ throw for my second daughter's teacher whcih I will give to her when school ends on June 20th. I have also finished a quilt top that I made fro a friend of mine. I started this at the beginning of last summer. It combines cross stitch and patchwork. There are 165 diferent squares, all cross stitched with 165 different quilt blocks (my thanks to quilter's cache!). A sampler quilt really but using cross stitch for each block. If you like, you can see (rather poor quality) pictures in my webshots album

under my quilt projects.

Well, I can hear the crowd getting restless in the waiting room, so maybe I should open my doors and see some patients. Time to get to work!

Sounds like mostly good stuff Claudia. Glad things are progressing, especially where your Mum is concerned. We must have got your rain now. We were very grateful to see it this week - not much, but it will do some good. Hope things continue well for you all, including your husband's neck. . In message , claudia writes

Welcome back, Claudia! I'm glad most things seem to be going well for you and yours. :) I hope work slows down a bit, though, so you'll have more time for fun stuff! As for your DH's surgery, I'm wishing him the best of luck with that. I had a herniated cervical disk years ago and just barely managed to escape surgery via physical therapy. Whew!

Nice to hear from you again. I have been absent alot too. Your husbands surgery is the same that 2 of my friends had. Both experienced very little pain and just had the inconvenience of the brace for 6 weeks. Both are glad they had it done. Best of luck with it. Linda in Tx
